601808 2007-10-15 10:53:00 As a webdesigner myself, I've entered in the past webchallenges and have won a few top prizes. However, from past experience this years wasn't the best year.

I have proof of valid unfair judging as one of the top 3 websites for one of the categories was awarded prizes even though they copied directly from other sites.

If you can spare the time, please help spread the word to your fellow webdesigners so they can know what's REALLY going on. As I said, these are my thoughts, anyone can come and argue with my otherwise.

Read the Article (www.windstarfire.net)
PS: Note: It is a personal blog, however the facts inside are real.

Thanks for your time.

I have not yet looked at this year winners /entry’s, but to what I have read on other webmaster/web design forums, preview’s years have not been that great so I wont be surprised if this years are the same.....

Here is a question for you, how are the judges meant to know/find out that that entry has just been copy & pasted??

I don’t know how long this thread may last, but have you e-mail the Netgude editor? www.netguide.co.nz

Maybe even post this on there forum: www.netguide.co.nz (I don’t know if your post will be approved thought, but you could always try)

Simply copy a sentence in the content, put quotation marks around them and google it. I found the plagiarism on the day they announced the winners and sent them an email requesting an answer to it, but still haven´t got a reply back yet, maybe they think that if they wait it out it would simply go away.

Here are the plagiarism as searched by the method described above:

601811 2007-10-18 03:17:00 Remember this is a web DESIGN competition, rather than a web content creator competition. I don't know much about the competition, but remember that these sorts of things are very subjective - maybe the judges just didn't like you for some reason. somebody (208)
601812 2007-10-18 03:18:00 Any chance of you writing to the plagiarised sites pointing this out? vinref (6194)

Actually their rules ( . co . nz/site/rules . htm" target="_blank">tvnznetguidewebchallenge . co . nz) say that plagiarised content will be automatically disqualified . I´m not saying that I should have won or something, but out of the thousands of entries why a plagiarised site deserve a third place?

I have emailed Netguide last Friday about this and so far still haven´t received a response yet .

Oh ok - didn't realise it was in the rules.

Thats probably the best way to do it, as those sites can then compain directly to the competition orgainsers, and they will then have to listen.

You could also go to the media, maybe TV3, as they aren't associated with it and it would make a good story for campbell live if it is true

601816 2007-10-19 04:23:00 Do the site owners actually do anything? Last time I tried that nothing ever happened. gnail (6819)
601817 2007-10-19 10:57:00 Personally, I think Alana and the webchallenge team have done a terrible job . I think the judges probably don't even know what's going on .

As for being web designing . Last time I checked, it actually was about the content as well . Personally I've seen better sites that would've gotten the third place if it was just about design anyway .

As gnail said, it kind of sucks when you spend so much time working as an individual or a team to enter the best site you can do, and find out that you lost to some third-rate website that looked like it took 2 hours to do .

I'm not saying it actually took 2 hours, there may be a coincidence that the content written was original, and that it was EXACTLY like those from the other sites, but I think the chances of that happening is lets say 0 . 0001%?

Since they state it in the rules, that plagurism means automatic disqualification, I think they should make it fair and actually STAND BY THEIR RULES . I hate it when people run away once they realised they now look like a fool .

Nevertheless that's just my opinion . Personally? I'm not too happy about it at all . I hope you guys can understand what I'm talking about .

For those who have some spare time, can you email netguide and TVNZ as well? There is only a few of us who realised this, people need to know about this and how they are dealing with the situation (by ignoring emails etc) .

Please tell your friends etc . So they can get the true story

Note: I've posted this on the-hub . tv, owned by TVNZ . Apparently it seems they still have not moderated my message . I've also posted it in Netguide forums . Let's see if they can handle the truth and actually make my post public .
