602097 2007-10-17 18:32:00 WMG (Sounds a bit like WMD when you say it out loud) - have you had your ipod longer than the period other users are saying they crap out by?

Is there an ipod that IS reliable?

602098 2007-10-17 18:48:00 Ha ha ha, what did you run into? :p

Nothing, Damn thing had a slight oil leak, Turned out being a seal deep whithin the engine, Then I had the idea that they should change the indicators, Then I figured they could machine new mounts to fit the saddle bags, then I figured they could take off the forward controls and fit standard items.

Its been in their 3 weeks now, The bill should have been a couple of hundred, Now I figure its over a grand, So I haven't been in to even find out what I owe them.....

602099 2007-10-17 19:08:00 I can put my hand up for Creative, I have a Zen Vision M and that is drag and drop, with out any extra software, I use it here at work even.

I plug mine into the stereo in my kitchen (via the optional cable). I plug it into my car via a mega cheap iRocks FM transmitter. I drag and drop files directly although the Creative software is also OK. I dump video on there without any re-encoding. The same cable that I use to plug it into the stereo lets me plug it into a TV to play back video. Great to shut the kids up while on holiday and it rains.

It also comes with a USB host feature and cable so I can plug in my card reader and transfer images to the Zen from my camera - very useful when on holiday for a couple of weeks and I run out of storage on my cards.

Yeah, I do the same, I have mine plugged into my car through an aux cable (RCA to 3.5mm)

I can't say that I have used the USB host feature, though I can see it could save your bacon if you forget a memory card for a camera... :D

My video capable iPod is my 2nd one, prior to that I got the 3rd Gen 10GB iPod which apart from the battery gradually fading over time, is still perfectly operational when plugged in to my computer. I got it in the beginning of 2003.

They are all reliable, it just depends on how well you treat them. Don't forget that Apple probably has a +/-1% failure rate on its hardware - which would equate to about 1.1million iPods

Possibly the best one to get would be the iPod Classic as it is using slightly "older" technology and is due to be End of lined when Apple makes all the iPods like the iPod Touch eg Nano Touch, Newton Touch (PDA), 2nd Gen iPhone Touch, 2nd Gen iPod Touch etc.which will be some time during the course of next year.

602102 2007-10-18 00:12:00 So, Its dead, How long after purchase before the battery failed?

I would count the battery failing as the day you first noticed it wasn't lasting as long as it once did.

602103 2007-10-18 00:22:00 At least a year, my current one is a lot better, I think I got mine from the batch that had the battery issues which were resolved by Apple. I have never had any problems with the software. Apple tends to bring out the newer/updated models of most of its stuff about every 18 months on average which is why it is so hard for the competition to beat them. By the time the competition has figured out how to make its first version after seeing Apple's first one and pulling it apart, Apple has come out with a newer cheaper improved model. winmacguy (3367)
602104 2007-10-18 00:23:00 Are the ipod batteries replaceable? Greven (91)
602105 2007-10-18 00:29:00 They are, at a cost although you should expect them to last at least 18-24 months or more depending on usage. By that time Apple will have superseeded the model you bought with another better one. winmacguy (3367)

Your logic is crap.
