| 602087 | 2007-10-17 04:34:00 | Daughter got some cheap thing (Kingstyle brand) off trademe. It plays mp3's, video etc has a small screen, charges via power or usb, transfers via usb with no extra software, cost her about $100 a couple of years ago and still works fine. Holds 1Gb. It is nice and simple to transfer music. Wife got one at DSE a Creative model I think and it is a hassle transferring music, creating a playlist on the PC before transferring. I also looked into iPod and they seem to be over rated by about 90%. Buy the ipod, buy a warranty because is sure is required, buy the charger, buy the case, and the blurb from Harvey Norman sales person was they had a lot come back normally just after the warranty expires with dead batteries. |

I'm not trying to "ruin" anything Metla, I was just stating that I haven't had any problems with my video capable iPod since I purchased it over a year ago. |

| 602094 | 2007-10-17 11:19:00 | Metla: Have you thought about a secondhand iriver H10? You should be able to get that for $200, and they're lovely players. They also support Rockbox (rockbox.org) (a complete firmware replacement), so you'll be able to play most anything except AAC+, use drag & drop, and customise the hell out of it if you want to (although that bit's not a requirement). They're HDD based, and come in 5GB, 6GB and 20GB versions. Sound quality is excellent. Alternatively, what about rockbox on an ipod? The apple software that comes with them is complete rubbish, but any ipod other then the just-released ones or the 2nd gen nanos will run rockbox - which means it suddenly becomes a rather good player rather than something to unjam the insinkerator with. (As a side note, I have owned both - 5GB iriver H10 and 80GB iPod video - I ran rockbox on both. I still have the ipod, sold the H10 a while back). Winmacguy: Please shut the hell up and stop annoying people. Your fanatacism is not wanted here! |

| 602095 | 2007-10-17 17:53:00 | To be honest the Creative Pmp is looking to me like the one I will purchase, But the threads secondary function is to draw attention to the various MP3 players out there, so keep em coming, with the good and the bad. All I have to do now is find out how much my bike is going to cost to get fixed, Which will dictate wether I buy one right away or wait awhile. |

Ha ha ha, what did you run into? :p I can put my hand up for Creative, I have a Zen Vision M and that is drag and drop, with out any extra software, I use it here at work even. |
