2007-10-20 01:02:00 | May I ask what you would do with the said powder? I know what I could use it for if I had it. As you have not answered my question up to date I feel no real need to answer your question.

2007-10-20 01:21:00 | Well sorry Sweep:o ifyou are offended. But may I ask what You would want to do with it? As for thermite, it's not actually explosive go look on Youtube. It just burns really hot;) I don't see how you can hurt anyone with thermite if you light a small pile of it in your backyard with a clear area around it. You know pctek what if I was a little ten year old and got called a jerk and then I cry and get traumatised for life this way?

2007-10-20 01:22:00 | You know to be honest all I want to do is to make a little thermite to see what it's like - I don't want to make explosives or anything like that (I don't even know how:p). But I was thinking maybe aluminium foil in coffee grinder? Or dissolve aluminium in HCl to form AlCl3 then displace it using Mg? Hopefully you would get small particles of Al that have formed and then all we need to do is filter it with filter paper. Would that work do you think? :illogical Thermite is dangerous. The temperature it burns at could cause serious damage to you, or to someone else. It may just seem like all fun and games, but I'm sure you'd think otherwise when you're recovering from severe burns in hospital.

2007-10-20 01:33:00 | Thanks for your concern and advice somebody. Maybe if I was a complete idiot who can't light a match without burning my fingers:waughh: would I be concerned but you know commom sense goes a long way. And also to light it you need to use for example magnesium ribbon which I have already got and that gives a sufficient time delay to get away. *sigh* maybe it really is impossible to get aluminium powder in NZ. It seems so easy in other contries like the US... | mlp (12595) | |
2007-10-20 01:36:00 | Ok guys don't worry about it, I have given up on trying to make thermite now. Everyone take care | mlp (12595) | |
2007-10-20 02:55:00 | Even looking at a thermite controlled burn can cause severe retina damage to your eyes . Just like arc welding, it's dangerous . As a licensed pyrotechnician, I can buy aluminum powder and magnesium powder too . . but why have the Homeland Security teems see me become a blip on their radar screens?
