771558 2009-05-07 03:56:00 you can download IE7 again from MS Download (www.microsoft.com) then run the installer.

OR sometimes if the OS is damaged then no amount of mucking about with IE will fix the problem, you may have to do a repair Install of XP, and this will put the browser back to IE6. Then reinstall SP3 unless your XP CD is SP3 - then put in a newer version of IE.

771559 2009-05-07 05:40:00 Run DR Watson. Go Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Click on the tools menu then Dr Watson and the the Dr Watson Console will open. Leave it running then try IE7/IE8 when it fails go here C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson and read the error log to see what is happening. You well need to select view all folders to be able to go here.

771560 2009-05-07 09:57:00 Thanks for all your help.I bit the bullet and loaded last Saturday's Acronis image. Easy to transfer latest email file when all my backups are on D and E.
First time I've had to do a reload on this pc.Funny how it's not quite as worrying when you're doing the sister's one!
Also got IE 7 going again after turning off an addon called Grab Pro Recoder.I think that's in Orbit downloader so must get rid of it.
Thanks once again.

771561 2009-05-07 11:02:00 Right, have seen other posts where people have had trouble with Orbit's Grab Pro Recoder.I had trouble shutting down IE as well as not getting online each time I opened IE7 until I disabled Grab Pro Recoder in the manage addons section. Now it's disabled all seems ok.Do you think it safe to upgrade to IE8 now!!!!!!!!!!!
Might be time to use another downloader.

771562 2009-05-07 21:22:00 Glad you got it sorted in the end. I'd create an Acronis backup before hand and go for it.

Have you tried using Firefox as your web browser?

It has tons more add-ons, excellent download managers and its a bit more secure.
