772077 2009-05-07 23:59:00 Will it work, wont it work, if not why not, potential pitfalls...

MCE gurus, talk to me! :D

Looking at setting up a PC with XP MCE, or a good equlivant software (I hear MythTV is good...?) and a nice hauppage (or whatever is recommended) DVB-S tuner. Will be outputting only to a TV, and I'd like to be able to run everything with a remote.

Anyone have this type of thing setup? How does it run? What hardware is recommended?

Thanks in advance. :)

772078 2009-05-08 00:02:00 Do you want HD? If you do, S doesnt support HD. Or can you only get S where you are? Speedy Gonzales (78)

I definitely do...but.. we only get S. :crying:crying

I'd get a tuner with DVB-T aswell though, to future proof it.

772080 2009-05-08 00:06:00 MythBuntu or Media Portal.

I've set it up with streaming and it works great.

772081 2009-05-08 01:16:00 You can get DVB-S working in XP MCE but does require a few registry hacks.
I even had to do this in Vista Media Center but Windows 7 supports it out of the box.
I would also recommend MediaPortalor GVB-PVR.
