772931 2009-05-11 00:08:00 Hi,
I have a chess apponent who is having her outgoing moves to me,multiplied up to 4 times per move.We are using postcard chess, which are duplicating, but another e mail chess version ( soundcardchess) is not affected
When I receive it - move my chess, but when I go to the next one ( we have several different games going at the same time ) it is a duplicate of the one I sent, and so on.
I cannot see the answer in F1 "search"
A mate told me weeks ago about how to correct it-it worked for me but not this time
As far as I can ascertaiin her other recipients are not having this trouble- but may be and not commenting

772932 2009-05-11 01:34:00 Er, what? You mean she receives several copies of your same email?
If so its most likely the ISPs end.

772933 2009-05-11 02:55:00 Hi PCtek,

No ! it is my receiving her moves that are multiplying, so many times- no one else's are doing this
So,it means she sends a move --once per game- it is I that gets several identical moves from her--my e mails to her are singular, for her
She has not known about this until I told her
Apparently I was having similar troubles to another chess apponent until my mate showed me how to stop it-and again I did not know it was happening
But this cure ain't enough

772934 2009-05-11 03:31:00 What's your email client? I've seen this kind of behaviour on Outlook Express when the mailboxes get large. MushHead (10626)
772935 2009-05-11 03:52:00 Hi MushHead,

Yes, I use Outlook Express, via xtra,XP Pro,

At this moment nobody to my knowledge is duplicating their e mail to me

Duplicate or multiple emails can be caused by the following .
Below is the cure sent me by a mate- but it won't change things for this lady

The usual causes of this are 1) scanning outgoing mail with an antivirus scanner (completely pointless - if possible, reconfigure your AV to not do this), 2) a too-short send . receive interval, and 3) a too-short server timeout value .

772936 2009-05-11 11:30:00 So how big is your inbox file? We used to have lots of quirky behaviour happening when we used it at work if it got quite large (hundreds of MB??).

Do you have the settings (under Advanced) configured to delete from server after retrieval, or have you set a delay? The problems we had stemmed from having a few days' delay set up (so you could retrieve from multiple PC's). The file OE used to keep track of the seen messages would get out of sync & OE would keep retrieving already-seen messages off the server on every connection until the delay time was used up.

You could try compacting your folders and/or creating an archive folder & moving old messages to it, to try & cut down the size of individual mailbox files.

772937 2009-05-11 21:34:00 The problem is likely to be her end. Maybe her inbox, or her ISPs end.
Get her to do these things suggested.
