772482 2009-05-09 09:44:00 Hello.

A friend of mine has a HP dv6000 with Vista installed. Whenever it is turned on or rebooted before it boots the speaker sounds a repetive beeping and on screen the message is something like:

press Esc to change boot sequence
press F10 to enter setup

I have gone into the bios setup and the changed the boot sequence to have the notebook hard drive at the top, so therefore first, followed by floppy and cd etc. I have saved and exited yet the beeping remains.

when you press Esc you are asked to change the boot sequence and the only option is Notebook hard drive, you hit enter and it boots up fine.

Any ideas why its not automatically selecting the hard drive? Going back into the bios the hard drive remains saved at the top.

772483 2009-05-09 10:42:00 try first resetting the BIOS back to default, sometimes things get "stuck" and Default fixes it. Then retry setting to the boot sequence you want.

Normally I set Floppy (if it has one - if Not then disable it) CD > HDD.

If still playing up, could be a CMOS battery about to die.

772484 2009-05-09 21:25:00 What sequence of beeps? It indicates a hardware problem. pctek (84)
772485 2009-05-10 21:21:00 Hiya, thanks for that but it didn't work .

Tried resetting to default, then elevated notebook HD to top of the list and still getting the error . Interestingly if i make HD the second option and floppy the first I get the error message and if I press escape to change the boot order Notebook HD is still the only option but instead of say No . 1 it says No . 2 Notebook HD so it does recognise the boot order in the bios .

The beep noise is just a constistent beep beep beep, fast, no long pauses and no long beeps . just beep beep beep beep beep .

if that helps . . . .

772486 2009-05-10 22:09:00 What is the currentl bios version? Blam (54)
772487 2009-05-10 22:13:00 So does it go? As in continues to Windows? Or not?

Continuous beep Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem
Repeating short beeps Power supply or system board problem

But I doubt it.....

Interestingly if i make HD the second option and floppy the first I get the error "message "

Disable floppy compeletly and see what happens.
