603869 2007-10-21 19:13:00 Wow, if I plug it into 2 side-by-side USB ports, does it double my storage?
Should I "Ring Now"?

A great idea.
Alas, this means my parallel and serial transfer cables are going to gain a neighbour (and some dust too).

603870 2007-10-21 19:17:00 I bought one from DSE (their brand) a couple of weeks ago to tsf photos from my lappie to desktop.

Didn't work well, so after much cussing I adopted a more feminine approach, RTFM and bingo! :D

About $20 from memory....great buy.

603872 2007-10-21 22:33:00 Belkin are aiming a bit far up the quality scale for me too, but for somebody who used it regularly it could soon pay for itself. The DSE cable will probably suit my budget. I started with Brooklyn Bridge for this purpose, moved on to Laplink, then on to (err) whatever it is I use now, eventually winding up with the 32 bit version.
(If I can remember who it is that makes me forget things, they are in trouble.)

603873 2007-10-21 23:15:00 Without the need for a complicated network setup?

If you're a tech with a laptop you're better off just carrying a small network cable around and a crossover adapter for older computers without auto switching.

Just because it's all "ohh easy usb!" doesn't make it totally awesome and useful.

603874 2007-10-21 23:34:00 Quite right MM,I like doing things the old way too. Cicero (40)
603875 2007-10-21 23:43:00 I move stuff between the home PC and shop PC, between my PCs and customers PCs.

I find my portable HDD useful for thi without needing to have the PCs next to each other. Or even in the same location.

Nor is it complicated either.
