603439 2007-10-20 12:50:00 Ok here is the deal I am wanting to make a back up of some of my fave DVDs in case one gets messed up I have a back up. The problem is I have no idea what type of DVD I should burn them on. I have 2 players (different rooms) Funai (combo vhs/dvd) WV805 and a DVD only player Panasonic DVD-RV26 player. What DVDs will play on these players. Thanks. 849321 (12949)
603440 2007-10-20 15:00:00 If the players are really new and I don't recognize ANY of them myself, they should be able to play almost any format that you can throw at them...maybe RWs are a little foggy...but MIGHT also work good enuff.

I typically use Imation or Maxell DVD-R and have very few, if any problems.

603441 2007-10-21 05:04:00 DVD-R is recommended by many as first choice.

Check the other forum - there was recent debate there :)

603443 2007-10-21 18:16:00 If you are copying your own DVD's which already work check their size. You will not directly copy a DVD9 onto a DVD-R which can only hold a DVD5.

Grab "DVD Shrink" it is freeware. It will copy a DVD9 to your HDD then it can burn it onto a DVD-R or DVD+R.

603445 2007-10-22 09:20:00 if you use Data Identifier to identify your disc, you can easily click on the more info button and be taken to videohelp.com's media section
and you can find your disc and see how other people's player react to it

if most people's standalone player can play it then you're probably in luck and you've got the right brand

I use verbatim's discs and it works on my old old dvd player

No it is not required if you use Shrink. DVD Shrink will rip any DVD to Hard Drive and it can also burn back to a DVD-R. I think it uses nero's drivers to do so.

I learn something every day. I've always used both and been told to do so.

603448 2007-10-23 09:22:00 Use a microwave, burn and shrink all in one easy 30 second step. Equally good for all formats. R2x1 (4628)
