604228 2007-10-23 05:03:00 I thought the 360 came with a basic live membership for playing online & getting free downloads?

The Xbox 360 can only play music from a networked computer if the music is stored on a windows computer running Media Player 11 or Media Centre.
I think that PS3 can play music from any network drive, but I'm not sure about that.

604229 2007-10-23 05:47:00 The 360 brand new comes with (I think) one month free XBL GOLD

SILVER is always free and for everyone - with this you get free downloads from the marketplace.

GOLD is what you use for playing online (EG Halo 3 multiplayer) PLUS all the features of silver. Some games also come with a 48 hour free trial of gold...I know I've still got an unused one from Halo 3 if anyone wants it :P

604230 2007-10-23 07:27:00 You only need to pay if you want to play online - get your facts straight. Free downloads are free.

lol that's even worse! so you buy the xbox, buy the game, pay your isp and then pay MS to host a game!

604231 2007-10-23 07:49:00 And whats even worse, MS have set it up for PC users as well, You buy their sponsored game, then have to use their matchmaking service to play online...and they charge you.

Heh?

Thats like the guy you buy a cup off charging you to fill it out of your own tap.

The idea is to add value services, Not lock everyone into a subscription service that charges you for whats free everywhere else on the internet.

How popular would steam be if you have to pay to run the damn thing, MS...The mind boggles, Or perhaps they are just supremely confident that their target audience is pretty thick.

604234 2007-10-23 18:29:00 I bet you guys have never played online on either a PS3 or 360.

If XBL was free - it would suck. The PS3 online service is absolute rubbish - aside from the small fan base of it, lack of updates, lack of downloads, laggy compared to 360, crappy servers and I could go on.

If you wanna play online and not pay, use your pc, but don't cry to me when you have to spend hundreds to thousands to upgrade it every time a new game comes out :lol:

604235 2007-10-23 18:42:00 ...don't game...so I guess I don't need either one...so far have not had too much trouble resisting the urge..which by the way does NOT exist.

Saw a Wii...it's cute but kinda silly.

604236 2007-10-23 20:53:00 I think the PS3 has quite a few advantages over the xbox360. Out of the box, it has hi-def, can play blu-ray disks, and games have no regional lockout (not totally sure on this, but I think I read it on wikipedia). The xbox 360 (even the name is deceptive, MS it trying to make it look like it's caught up, once I saw someone call it an xbox 3), well, the current version, has no high def (in nz at least), and needs an external drive to play HD-DVD's (which are on the losing side of the war if I am correct). One flaw the new PS3 has, is the lack of a PS2 EE, and so all PS2 games are emulated in software, and hence rubbish (the PS2 had a 128-bit CPU. Try emulating that!). Another thing the PS3 has going for it is the option to install Linux. So, now, you can get rid of that PC, and use your PS3 as a home computer! And the PS3 has a built-in PS3-only version of Folding@Home. The Xbox 360 has suffered because of MS's incompetence. The Red Ring Of Death is one example. They still aren't saying what the cause of it is, but fixed units now have a new heatsink on them, so if MS can't even get the heatsink right, what chance do they have of getting the consumor on their side.
