604049 2007-10-25 23:54:00 Motorcycling safety consultant Allan Kirk told the New Zealand Herald the wire barriers could be justified in some places, such as the narrow coastal highway north of Wellington, but it was "utterly unforgivable" of Transit to install them where there was room for steel ones.

note that man is an idiot and a week ago was claiming that there was nothing wrong with those barriers

604050 2007-10-26 02:57:00 so instead of speculation i suppose we should wait for the police report

What? Isn't idle speculation what forums are for ?

604052 2007-11-01 08:33:00 But......The darkies are home...... No they are not Metla, they are immigrants just like us. Home for them is a long way away, however they had the foresight to wipe out the previous immigrants so that there couldn't be any arguments. There were more of them you see, so they won.

Now there are more of us, so sauce for the Moriori is sauce for the Maori. It will all settle down once we get the kiwi racial mix properly homogenised over the next couple of hundred years.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, all fixed objects along our roads can and do kill, as do all of the moving objects, the most common factors being speed and alcohol. Live with the environment or go someplace else where the runoff is desert and die of sand burns instead.

You turns your key in the ignition and you takes your chances.

Cheers

As the survivor of a head-on open road collision between '70s Toyota Corolla and '70s Ford Cortina MKIII I am fully qualified to comment! No barriers, cheese cutters, bean slicers or sand traps to intervene. Cortina driver crossed centre line for no apparent reason.

604053 2007-11-01 08:49:00 No one is suggesting we get rid of barriers, Just use ones that dont rip limbs off motorcycle riders.

Im pretty surprised anyone would disagree with the concept.

I would disagree, Home for them is here, Just like it is for the rest of us.

Though I would suport there Tuhoe Nation.

Lets start by stopping their dole, and make then import goods from NZ.Though I have no idea how they will pay for it?...Perhaps we could swap some land in return for keeping them alive. You can only go so far on a couple of Kumera and wild pig.

as per usual metla's word is gospel;)

i was just thinking the other day that we should put a big fence across the tip of northland, and get everyone north of there to choose what nation they want to live in. stop everything at the border, including acc, emergency services, alcohol and dole money. see how long they last, and see who actually want's to stay there. of course let people across the border, but with the normal passport criteria to get into NZ at a port - and if they come across for medical care/education, again, no NZ paid subsidy for forgieners.

i mean, if they're going to block me visiting a public beach, and object to sealing roads to allow me to ride my bike all the way up to cape rianga, why not? it seems to be what they want, it is what they're calling for (as i understand it)

interesting thought experiment, something tells me the PC police would never allow it though:lol:

604056 2007-11-04 02:56:00 Wire Barriers are not the answer to stopping intrusion into on coming traffic in this country, the fact that they do not comply to original design with the space required either side of them mean you will still get intrusion into oncoming traffic, it will not stop lorries as has been shown by the crash the day after the spokesman from Transport on TV3 stated the stopped Car and Trucks, on the report from TV1 they used a different spokesman when commenting on the report of the motorcyslist protest rally, and this time even their spokemans came across in a way that it was hard to believe he he believed what he was saying.

Speed in the crash involving the break up of the motorcycle and death of the rider that has brought this into the news agian, it has been stated by those in the know that he was not speeding, and it was not lack of rider skills, so its down to the wire that killed him,

These barriers are inafective at preventing deaths of car drivers, lorry drivers, and greatly increase the death rate of motorcyclist,

They require the same Ban on them as Holland ,Finland, and many other countries through out the world

actually it's the uprights that cause most the injury . . . and LTNZ need not ban them, just use them for their intended purpose and cover the uprights and make them safe!

and yeah, i loved how the guy they intviewed on one news started stuttering when they asked if the wire barriers were being used because their cheaper

604058 2007-11-04 05:39:00 I can't believe the way this poll has gone, I would have thought majority votes would have gone with yes.

When I went to Auckland a couple of months ago I thought how horrendous and dangerous they looked. Not to mention how cheap and tacky they look.

They should rip them out and put in concert barriers.
