772685 2009-05-12 01:19:00 Ok

managed to freeze the comp with that last link of blams......
started to download mets link, and took ages and i gave up and went to bed and left it downloading, only to get up this morning and the computer had rebooted itself and was waiting on the log on screen and when i went to check the download it came up as error, no data in file or something to that effect.
so i restarted the download this morning, and am currently at work so dont know how progress is going.........

but i now have a heap of stuff downloaded onto my desktop i have no use for:p and i am wary of deleting anything at the moment just in case i do something wrong again.........

thanxs for all the help so far and i hope to update you with good news by the time i get home tonight..... and that we have fixed peach.... lol

772687 2009-05-18 00:53:00 Ok just a quick query ............

i can play music on win media fine, but still have no actual puter sounds, on start up, shut down or beeps etc that may normally occur....

was that link strictly for media player just so i can get sound, but not for all other sounds?

the start up sound or lack of it doesnt worry me, just the beep for email not happening is helpful and i miss it....:D

772688 2009-05-18 01:12:00 Once the sound drivers are installed it should work for ALL apps on the computer

The startup sounds may be disabled.

Go Control Panel>sounds and make sure its enabled.

772689 2009-05-18 02:02:00 I recall having this problem before (the system sounds missing) while everything else is working

It was caused by a registry entry put somewhere it shouldn't have been. Sorry I can't remember the details but someone here might know what I'm talking about and be able to help

Possibly these two:

www.kellys-korner-xp.com

www.kellys-korner-xp.com

Right Click>Save as>Make sure its set to ALL FILES in the save window and it has a .reg extension.
Double Click both registry entries and merge to registry

772691 2009-05-18 02:59:00 Hold your horses, Most likely it tried to use a different audio device while the audio driver was missing.

Go to

Control panel>sounds and audio devices, Under the sounds tab select windows default.

Then select the Audio tab and make sure your sound card is listed as the default device. and while there have a look in the volume control and make sure none of them are muted or set at no volume.
