604218 2007-10-23 02:00:00 That might be because Nintendo are working to a similar business model to what Apple is doing with the iPod and iPhone where the hardware is worth more than the software.

Apple can handle not having software sales because it doesn't need them e.g. music / open source software. Nintendo on the other hand need companies to make software or else it will flop. Every console Nintendo have made they have had control over the the game makers on pretty much every aspect. This time around they said they wouldn't do this so much but from recent news 3rd party developers are still sketchy on making games for the Wii.

iPhone, iPod + no software = still useful
Wii + no software = fly swatter

Who's saying the 360 has better games.

No one in this thread yet but in past ones all I hear is 360 has better games or they sell more.

604219 2007-10-23 02:18:00 So, with my wireless router and broadband, will a xBox 360 or a PS3 link up and allow, a) multiplayer on-line, b) play my music stored on my server or pc?

a: of course, though you do need to subscribe to xboxlive and pay money for "free" downloads etc whereas i think the ps3 version is entirely free. xbox isn't grunty enough to host a game though, so multiplayer games are hosted on microsoft servers (thus the subscribtion fee)
dunno about ps3 hosting though, asfaik the ps3 actually has enough power, but then nz's crappy 128k upload would be a problem

B: asfaik ps3 basically is a pc with linux on it, and i'm pretty sure both of them play music (i would go have a look at my mate's 360 but got the "green ring of death" last week )

Oh, and roughly how many games are out for each and avg price?

the xbox has been out over a year longer, and new games generally cost the same across the board for xbox, ps3 and pc. so halo will be no cheaper on xbob than on pc, when it comes out on pc.

Nintendo can't have a flop, They refuse to sell at a loss, Unlike Sony and MS, so any system that doesn't have huge sales doesn't hurt the company, and every sale they make...makes them money. and the Wii is making them plenty of money

And their hand held systems have sold so many millions and millions of units that they completely outstrip the might of both the Sony and MS game devisions.

Nintendo must be selling some software otherwise nobody would be having any games to play on their millions of new Wii's

iPod is not much use without software - no iTunes no music no listen
iPhone is about to be very useful with a SDK due to be released early next year which will be snapped up by millions of software developers as soon as Apple lets it out the door.

604222 2007-10-23 02:40:00 with maybe a few exceptions, the games are almost all crap.

seriously, wii sports is the only good one, and only because of the tennis and tank games, only when playing a friend. i would say boxing but the wiimote is too unresponsive.

EDIT: marioware wasn't bad either, but only at a party

the ps2 is still selling too - thanks to singstar. the wii is a similar seller - one game that's good for parties and a low price

itunes is one of the reasons why the ipod is not as good as all the other mp3 players out there
and from what i hear, apple never wanted 3rd party software for the iphone, which was going to be yet another reason it was overhyped just

Well what ever you heard, disregard it because Apple/Steve announced that Apple will be releasing a full SDK for the iPhone early next year.
Maybe Apple just wanted to make sure it had the iPhone setup just right before it announced the developer kit... who knows..?

iTunes might not be that great in some people's opinions, but it hasn't stopped Apple from selling 10.2 million iPods for the 3rd quarter. Haven't seen any other MP3 player manufacturer matching those numbers.

604225 2007-10-23 03:12:00 Cool, WMG with the Apple crap, once again.

How can you not take the hint?

Well I was originally talking about the very successful Wii so go figure. Might have something to do with two very successful products from two successful companies that have go the "keep it simple" formula figured out.

You only need to pay if you want to play online - get your facts straight. Free downloads are free.

PS3 is free because it simply sucks (online). I'd rather pay the $70 odd a year (on my second year of XBL gold) than have free live and get the crappy service PS3 online offers.

And what do you want games to be hosted on? Nintendo servers? I'm not too sure how it works, but people do become hosts in games and if you get a host with a crappy connection, the game is crappy.
