603929 2007-10-23 23:11:00 great work Joe, make sure you're safe over there .
Thanks for updating here, it's a great source of info, and thanks for linking to the pics .

keep us updated when you can, but safety first :)

Not a problem . . and we are safe at the moment .

I just don't want to bore anyone with this news from so far away . . . but I don't think the size and impact of this is easily understood .

The CDF (California Division of Forestry) has set a few dozen firetrucks and complete crews around our twin cities here . . . in anticipation of the winds shifting over night and coming from the West .

We are going to have an on-shore flow soon, which is normal after the Santana winds (that's the correct name of the hot winds, but it has been transliterated into "Santa Ana" winds) .

We see television crews from Canada and other states here to get footage, and the place is crawling with insurance claims adjusters too .

The fairgrounds and large venues for outdoor and indoor sporting events are all opened for evacuees and their animals . . horses, cows, sheep, goats . . etc . . . .

The Red Cross is unloading 100's of thousand of beds, blankets, bathroom supplies, emergency generators and water processing equipment .

FEMA . . which had such a black eye from the Katrina debacle, are here in force, offering help and assistance in the form of money . . . aircraft . . . buses . . . . food . . . beds . . . . just about everything but new homes .

The California Insurance administration has just announced that they are going to alter everyone's policies to increase the payback on claims and adjustments . That's interesting . . . Mr . Garamendi is being a real good state insurance commissioner this time .

Here's the next vid . . . not as long and not as good . . . . . youtube . com/watch?v=cN5bRC3L24Q" target="_blank">www . youtube . com

603932 2007-10-24 00:20:00 Chula Vista Joe?

Well . . . here's what has happened since you wuz a cookie crumbler . . . .

The "greenies" with "greenwash" insisted on "Greenbelts" or parks and designated wild-like verdant trails and parks in the areas between tracts of homes and for each and every new business that opened up .

It is a State law that you have to increase the green footprint by the amount of land you consume with that big fat cement building you plop down .

Along come the "naturalists" and their view that Smokey (The) Bear ( . smokeybear . com/?gclid=CN2Kmaynpo8CFQluIgodJRMALw" target="_blank">www . smokeybear . com) has been telling everyone for generations . . well since the '50s anyway . .

"Only you can prevent a forest fire" .

Smokey was dead wrong . Kill Smokey!

They prevented fires so good that they let the forest floors and valleys fill with very burnable detritus that would naturally have been burned in smaller, less intense fires, leaving the forest floors then almost invincible to the total destruction we now see .

Fire is GUD! Fire is the forest's FRIEND!

It is NATURAL (see that? I used the "N" word!) .

So now when a spark occurs . . it's a fire storm .

Chula Vista is one of those "natural" places where they preserve everything including dead leaves, fallen trees and evergreens that should have been gone during the last ice age . (But . . they're PRETTY and I want one in my front yard!)

Results? Inferno! .
