603780 2007-10-22 01:41:00 Well what the bloody hell do you expect ?

People are pissing and moaning about wanting new features. New innovations and a better experience.

People.
Really.

Can't say I ever asked for any of the unnecessary crap they built into it.
I don't want a browser loaded by default.
I don't want popups asking me if I'm sure or what would I like to do with that.
I don't want Security Centers nagging me.
I don't want pointless special effects.

Its an O/S not a game.
Well, its supposed to be an O/S.

As for a better experience thats highly debatable.

603781 2007-10-22 02:50:00 maybe they should offer "not noob" version of windows?

free from all the bs you don't actually need, and without retarded messages and the like

603782 2007-10-22 03:00:00 I'd just like a very customizable version. I dont mean like un-installing things once everything is up and running but right from the moment you pop the disc in to install the OS.

Apple and Mac of course can't do that because SJ would never give them choice and independence.

603784 2007-10-22 03:18:00 I got really hacked off at the people that were having a huge cry when Vista was released with bs like "why isn't it the same price as XP."

Do you expect to pay the same price for a 1999 Model car as you would if you bought the 2007 model ? XP came out at a certain price, and over time it dropped to its current price, why would anyone expect to pay that same cheaper price for Vista ?

Wishful thinking.

603785 2007-10-22 03:22:00 I'd be gutted if my new car cost 4 times as much, weighed 5 times more, and was unusable on current roads.

Especially if it was all due to undesired extras.

I know a few people (businesses) who have returned PC's on the day of purchase due to them going slower then the computers they were replacing, computers that were 5 or 6 years old.

Granted the piles of crap didn't have enough ram to run Vista, But that's not the customers fault.

603786 2007-10-22 03:29:00 thats a 50% increase on vista

not exactly small

so it is amusing you're beating on windows's size when mac is worse

I'm not beating up any OS I was just interested to see Microsoft is researching ways to get their OS smaller which is something Apple did 8 years ago when they bought NeXTSTEP to replace OS9 so that they had Mac OS X 10.0 with a whole new platform to build on.
I think a lot of the unnecessary weight that Windows is carrying is legacy code that would be more beneficial if it could be fazed out as Apple does with older Macs and code.

A middle of the range computer costs less now then it did 12 months ago, so why shouldn't a new OS cost less.

603788 2007-10-22 04:16:00 Agreed.

It’s a bold claim to say that Windows is on the way out, but after using Vista for the best part of a whole year, I’m still less than impressed with it.
