604209 2007-10-22 23:04:00 I never thought you would lower yourself by quoting sale's figures:)

At least Metla is using valid numbers to support his argument :)

604210 2007-10-22 23:09:00 Adding the DVR to it will only inflate the price some more and no one will buy it.

1: It is a firmware upgrade so costs wont go up.
2: The PS3 is the same price as the 360 in the US.

The price is still pretty high here though ($799NZD for the new model) and can be sourced for $530NZD from online stores.

If you only want to play games then duh maybe the 360 is a better option. But if you just so happened to want to watch next gen movies on the 360 you would need another box to occupy your shelf.

Also the PS3 is simply following what happened to the PS and PS2. They start out at $1000 slowly went down. Then went down so much that they became a huge hit. Sony must be doing something right to have two great consoles.

And saying the 360 has better games is silly. The 360 has been out longer I would hope it did. And I'm surprised no one has downed the Wii yet as it has the worst of any of them in software sales. Great hardware sales but no one is buying games.

That might be because Nintendo are working to a similar business model to what Apple is doing with the iPod and iPhone where the hardware is worth more than the software. It also means that Nintendo can expand on the hardware concept which is attractive to a very wide age range of people (from 10 years to 80 years) as it is cheaper than the competition which means higher unit sales and good profit margins due to lower component and manufacturing costs.

Who's saying the 360 has better games.

604214 2007-10-23 00:22:00 I haven't got a ps3 nor do I know any one with one but I decided to buy my son a Xbox 360 for his 14th, last Thursday and he loves it. So much faster and the games are so much better ..... but as I said I am comparing it to a ps2. Got the Halo 3 game with it and we have played it through twice so far, was o.k but hopefully will be a bit more challenging on line as my son is a bit bored of it already. Played the Halo 1 game first and in comparison number 3 is much better. As far as I know, only the Halo games can be played on 360 but if anyone knows of any other games that will play without updating his system will be much appreciated. (I think its funny that 360 has to be updated in order to play older games) He loves being able to play all his songs during a game and his wireless controller but the console, cords etc are huuuuge compared to ps2, not sure about ps3. never-u-mind (6500)
604215 2007-10-23 00:37:00 Where's the "I prefer PC over consoles" option?

or atleast a "no, i don't think it's a flop" option!

exactly what i was thinking. and no-one is considering that a new playstaion comes out every 5 years or so, when xbox is redundant in just two or 3.
then there's the fact that i dont like halo, and really PC is the only way to play FPS games.

and the fact MS had to increase the warranty from 1 to 3 years due to a major design fault, wheras sony delayed their release to get the blu ray drive fault reapaired.

and finally, people shouldn't be buying the xbox because it's from microsoft. why you ask? because every time MS enters a market they use their money to buy or undercut their opposition, create a monopoly and then sit on their asses with no incentive to make any new decent products. and then when competition rises again they just copy it. (think about the internet browser history. once on top IE didn't noticably change untill firefox two was about to come out, and then it was just a copy. same for windows vista stealing widgets and calling them gadgets - why is beyond me as they're totally useless)
point being, IMO, letting microsoft into the console market is a very, very bad idea.

and i must i point out the wii is largely a novelty device, and is very cheap. i had more fun on the N64

BUT, i will concede that the PS3 launch was a complete failure:lol:

Spot on.
I saw a 20/20 or 60minutes item the other night talking about the mass appeal of the Wii to the older generation. Very interesting. Not normally a crowd you would associate with gaming.
Nintendo has done well to broaden their market with a very clever product that is easy to operate but which leaves plenty of scope for user interaction and further game development.
Keep it affordable and keep it simple and it will sell well.

604217 2007-10-23 00:54:00 So, with my wireless router and broadband, will a xBox 360 or a PS3 link up and allow, a) multiplayer on-line, b) play my music stored on my server or pc?

Oh, and roughly how many games are out for each and avg price?
