Which Highway would that be?

You would be quite happy then to have...say spikes mounted along the road that would not only stop the car but also kill the passengers?

Its alright, Do the speed limit fools. Anyone that dies must have deserved it.

Don't just fob it off as silliness either, Thats exactly what these fences are to people on bikes.

And we shouldn't rescue people from the bush if they don't stick to the track.

Fire departments should not attend fires at homes that do not have smoke alarms installed.

Hey - why don't we just install poisoned stakes at the side of the road - and anybody who has a problem with that should try to ride to the laws of the land?

604034 2007-10-22 09:08:00 For what its worth, I voted NO to banning them.

Though I would like to see them removed from places where they are a hazard, and modified with a guard in other areas. a little intelligence in where they were installed would go a long way

Riding a bike can be a dangerous past time, yes hazards need to be treated with respect, That doesn't mean we should use a system that will funk you up big time, especially a system that costs more then the most alternatives and is less effective in stopping larger vehicles.

At 150 km/h I would rather this guy hit the barrier than my car

604036 2007-10-22 19:24:00 The majority of motor bike accidents are caused by idiot car drivers who are half blind, pissed or just plain stupid.
Slicing and dicing members of the community isn't something we should be doing just because the wire barriers are cheaper to install and repair.

I do see your point, the two roads I frequent that have the wire rope barriers, Im glad they are there. There were a high number of head on crashes along that road and any other sort of barrier would be out of the question. SH1 centeneral highway just north of wellington and the back road between stokes vally and silverstream in the hutt valley. I am lucky enough not to have had a blow out yet

Its been claimed over at Kiwibiker that the majority of bike accidents are 1 vehicle incidents, The bike. I don't know if that claim was drawn from any real data, But it makes sense to me.
