772663 2009-05-10 10:46:00 That belongs to a voicemodem not a soundcard. Go to control panel / sounds / audio tab. Make sure playback and recording (click on the arrow at the end, whats here) ? are on the soundcard (a voicemodem will change to the default playback device). ie: Then you wont hear anything Speedy Gonzales (78)

772665 2009-05-10 11:10:00 Get this (www.cpuid.com) install it then run it

See if this will tell you what it is. Does it say anything different to the right of mainboard? If that doesnt say anything, you'll have to open the case look at the mobo and see if the model is etched on it

772666 2009-05-10 11:18:00 Noone disabled the sound in the BIOS did they?? Thats the only other reason its disappeared. Speedy Gonzales (78)
772667 2009-05-10 11:22:00 You might be able to see sound card/modem names by clicking Start and then Help and Support. In the window that opens there will be a list on the left hand side under Pick a Help Topic. Click (or look) on any one of these and in the new pane that opens at the bottom you will see 'Pick a task' then 'use tools etc.. click on this and then from the list of tools click My Computer Information.

Then click ‘View general system information about this computer’ and also click
"Find information about the hardware installed on this computer" Maybe copy and paste all the details from the Specifications heading. Someone might then point you to download for your chip set drivers.

772669 2009-05-10 11:42:00 Maybe using System Restore would save a lot of hassle? Blam (54)
772670 2009-05-10 12:00:00 I recall fixing a mate's PC with similar problem, hence the interest. Here's a similar thread (www.windowsbbs.com), where it was resolved, but with Creative Technology Ltd sound card (if you have that).
Apparently my mate played a copied audio CD, which we believe corrupted the driver(s).

772671 2009-05-11 00:52:00 Maybe using System Restore would save a lot of hassle?

I tried that blam...........i said that in my first post. and it didnt work or change anything. :) i was hoping that would fix it,

and so i still have no sound, and i am not comp literate enough to know what is wrong or how to fix........... im also presuming it was caused by operator trouble....:p and i am not always up with the instructions im getting...... doesnt help the brain is fogged by a cold..... and so the thinking just aint going to well.

so all help is appreciated.

and i will have a go at downloading that prog and doing a check tonight to see what i have, and go from there. after work sometime.
