772833 2009-05-10 07:04:00 An xp prof computer with rollback RX install, one 40 hard disk with two partitions c and d 20 gig each. C partition got 2.5 g blank, D partition got about 2 gig blank. So I went to do disk cleanup, tick all the boxes to delete such as old archives, and other boxes. When it is done with disk cleanup C partition actually got less space, C free space now is about 0.7gig compared to 2.5 gig before disk clean up, and D free space now is about 0.6 gig compared to about 2 gig before disk clean up.

Why disk clean up actually takes more of the disk space instead of freeing it.

772834 2009-05-10 07:07:00 Download something like this:
http://windirstat.info/

And have a look at whats taking up all that space.

Also try defragging

772835 2009-05-10 07:10:00 You know I tried to delete files from D partitions, the amount deleted was about 4 gig, but after deleting, the amount free space gained was only less than 1 gig. lightfoot (39)

Windows Defrag needs 15% free space to work ....

Indeed-forgot about that:p

In that case disable hibernate and system restore-then move anything possible to a flash drive and try.

Download CCleaner and run it too

772839 2009-05-10 08:45:00 What is the reason that disk clean actually takes more free space and deleting files only gain small amount of free space? Thanks lightfoot (39)
772840 2009-05-10 09:05:00 Have you emptied the Recycle Bin? zqwerty (97)
772841 2009-05-10 09:06:00 No idea-could be a bug.

It is windos you're dealing with here!:p

772842 2009-05-10 09:24:00 If it didn't have a system restore point, then the cleanup would have created one.

Or is that only obvious to me?

edit: Just read up on what the rollback RX software actually does. Does this mean that two restore points might have been created?
