605945 2007-10-28 05:57:00 Hi there

Im entering an Adventure Race in Early March, and while Im a fit 50+yr old, MTB rider, Im kind of new to running.

I need to buy a pair of running shoes and a realistic training program that will see me fit to take part in this event, 4mths away.

I ran a 1/2 marathon 20yrs back, ended up with LHand hip pain that last 1-2yrs afterwards, so I wanrt to do things right this time.

Last time I looked a Running Shoes the prices were very high, $3-500. I suspect most of this is Marketing costs, so if you can see through the bulls_it that accompanies the adverts and store Sales staff, what sort of shoes should I be looking for.

Thanks

John in Mosgiel.

605947 2007-10-28 09:04:00 The TV ads for The Athlete's Foot stores look pretty convincing - they seem to only hire pro's to assist with your selection. Greg (193)

Click on the GEAR section. then How to Choose a Shoe.

It gives basic info (but even non-energetic I was interested ) though you have to scroll down to find it.

Asics Gel shoes .

Although I do not run anymore - bad knees - I would not walk in anything else . Recommended by my podiatrist (had to get orthotics) .

Go to a good sports shoe store, for runners . The staff at such stores are very knowledgeable . Try on a variety of shoes . For the last 8 years I have tried every brand at every price from Warehouse cheapies to the most expensive, and always go back to Asics Gels .

605952 2007-10-28 23:55:00 I just bought a new pair of cross trainers in the Stirling Sports sale. They are far better than my old $30 shoes - they are comfortable to run in & they actually fit me properly (I have quite wide feet) Greven (91)
