| 605243 | 2007-10-25 07:33:00 | It will never get cheaper. Nothing ever does. Though there is a distinct possibility it will get more expensive. Paperwork isn't done for free after all, Of course most of its meaningless babble but hey, what else are all those educated people going to do....real work?....hell no. And the upper crust need a boat, 3 houses, a sports car collection and a big fat payout of millions. Each. |

According to Orcon's Blog: www.orcon.net.nz we should hopefully get a better idea on when we get local loop unbundling on 9th November. But I suspect we wont see any effects of the local loop unbundling for another 2 years at lest if not more |

Unbundled bitstream is now available from local ISPs as well as number portability (which didn't use to be possible) The price has come down - but not a lot. The real difference will start to happen when the ISPs can locate their networking gear in ALL of Telecoms exchanges not just some of them. |

Depends on how much you think is cheap, and how much value it provides you . I mean people will happly pay $3.50-$4.0 for coffee a day, when broadband costs less than half this. When you take into consideration inflation, and our small spread out population, I think our broadband prices are not bad. The quality of connection however is a bit of a concern, as it needs government investment. It is not like electricity prices which just keeps going up and up. I got another 'Our Power Prices are Changing' letter today from my power company, but you can bet that 'Changing' means the prices are going up. |

"Your prices are changing because ours are, but one thing that will never change is our promise to be fair" It just makes me laugh :D |

| 605249 | 2007-10-25 09:19:00 | It'll never get any cheaper, Telecom may open up their network but they're still the wholesaler for broadband. Its Econ 101 really, government comes in and makes you share your network thus reducing revenue so you increase the wholesale cost to compensate. | Pete O'Neil (6584) | ||
| 605250 | 2007-10-25 17:16:00 | Yes considering you can sit on the net all day (at slow speeds) the entertainment value of broadband has to be very good value ! I would prefer they spend more money on switches and fibre so that will cost them more ! I would like Cheaper mobile phone calls (to and from land lines) Cheaper power Cheaper sections Cheaper legal fees Cheaper houses Cheaper wood (very dear in NZ) Cheaper escorts (180 per hour ! - i hear !) Cheaper cereals Cheaper milk Cheaper Sky TV Get the idea ! If you think it is dear, you are probably a student and everything is dear, but when you qualify as a lawyer or doctor you will probably charge heaps ! Regards Digby |
