773608 2009-05-14 22:06:00 DO you have a bootable CD to perfrform a chkdsk on the drive?

Do you have access to a XP cd?

773609 2009-05-14 22:11:00 Some of the acers I have worked on have the recovery password in ahidden file - you boot from a linux live CD, navigate to /TOOLS/AIMDRS.DAT open it with the text editor in linux and theres the password.

IF the Laptop is now not shutting down after the RAM removal - retry the Command prompt to get into restore - see what happens.

Since you dont have a XP CD - download the Recovery Console (www.webtree.ca) unzip it, burn the ISO using ISO burning software - see if you can boot from that.

If it does, then there are several things you can type in to try to get it booting again - BUT "IRQL_not less or equal " is usually a driver Issue someplace.

773610 2009-05-15 02:33:00 im not sure if you can download it now as most antivirus software thinks its a Trojan but there is a small DOS program which if run will reset the cmos to 0 and you will need to reset time date and everything. its called KillCMOS, i have a floppy disk image which will work on bootable CDs (i'll have to lug out the 3.11 box) which has CD drivers, PS/2 mouse drivers and DOSSHELL included williamF (115)
