773293 2009-05-12 06:41:00 ok? how do i power it? ZapperBoy10647 (11988)
773294 2009-05-12 06:44:00 Why cant you download and install the programs I linked above to the PC you are currently on, and make the bootable CD's from that ? wainuitech (129)
773295 2009-05-12 07:11:00 Your Windows XP CD should be able to boot up even if there is no HDD installed in the machine so changing partitions is not going to help the boot problem. CYaBro (73)
773296 2009-05-12 07:14:00 The laptop would have to support booting from USB devices (not all can, (depending on how old it is) or / and the USB flash drive would have to support booting from (if you mean a USB flash drive). Not all usb flash drives are bootable either

You use the same power the internal SATA hdd is using (if theres an extra connector). Or you'll have to buy a molex to sata adapter

773297 2009-05-12 07:25:00 Also if the laptop hdd is a SATA, you'll have to turn AHCI off (change it to IDE mode), so the XP cd will see the hdd. So you can install XP. Otherwise, it wont find the hdd, unless you've slipstreamed SATA drivers on that CD. Speedy Gonzales (78)
773298 2009-05-12 09:51:00 The disc must be scratched or something...as the internal HDD should not affect booting from the XP CD.

Does the XP CD work fine when inserted into another PC and have you tested the DVD drive is working?

Try burning this to CD:
www.thecomputerparamedic.com

Its the XP recovery console, from there you can format the drive.

Or you can use the USB version of gparted, if your bios supports it.

gparted.sourceforge.net
