606810 2007-11-01 21:26:00 Well, at least then you can de-bug it. R2x1 (4628)
606811 2007-11-01 22:08:00 While dropping off some fence posts I backed into my old wooden power pole on our land (only serves our house) and it's now got a definite lean although not in danger of falling over just yet - I hope!
I now not sure whose responsibility it is to get it fixed but I think, because it's on my land, it's going to be mine. Does anyone know if an ordinary house insurance policy will cover the damage I've caused?

cheers

Tim
wait for the next really windy wet day, then ring the power company the next day and see what they say

606812 2007-11-01 22:56:00 Just remember that pole will have wires attached to it, and that will mean a fair amount of weight pulling on it.

You don't really want to be digging down beside it.

Try explaining that to your insurance company when it falls over and rips the wires out of the house.

Then you will have to pay the power company for damge to their equipment, and they will also charge you to put it all back....

Metla-from my own experience if the power pole is on your land then the lines are usually slung overhead until they actually enter the house via an overhead cable and are again slung overhead and the cable clamped to a part of the upper structure of the house. If the pole is outside your property then their is usually an underground cable from the pole to the house. Then you have a problem.
Working on a farm for a number of years and with many power poles to negotiate someone always managed to nudge a wooden power pole and as long as there were no underground cables running from the pole their is no real problem doing what I suggested so long as you take all the correct precautions. There should not be too much weight pulling on the pole if the wires are only going to a single point on the property. It can be a different story if there are multiple wires going to various parts of the property.
