605864 2007-10-27 18:29:00 Great . . . so Vista is brand new, so it's ok that it is slow and doesn't run well on most people's existing hardware . Hell - if it crashes when people try to install it, that's ok too - it's new software .

Most people are not experiencing any problems and those that are have some incompatible third party app or have not followed the recommended instructions .
The following are the more common from those upgrading to leopard so lets keep this in perspective .

I just got my first apple (MacBook Pro) in May, and I had Leopard delivered to me at my hotel yesterday . I put the DVD in at 4:00 pm, did not skip the verification process, and was up and running with no hitches by 5:30 pm .

My installation went flawlessly . Also, it is the fastest installation of all the upgrades .

The upgrade was a breeze on my macBook Pro! Leopard is fantastic - fast, and feature-rich .

Before you blame Apple get rid of that free software thats crippling your system . Unistall 3rd party apps like application Enhancer using a program like app zapper

I have installed on several systems and configs all went perfect .

Upgraded three computers with family pack - Flawless all the way around . Great job Apple!

My wife and I upgraded a Power Book G4 and MacBook Pro last night both upgrades went perfectly .

Easy to install and running without any problems . Leopard is a great product .

I upgraded 4 computers with my family pack, two intel and two G4, it was the easiest installation that I have ever done .

I agree this was the easiest installation I have ever done . A very small percentage of people having problems is not newsworthy .

I had 2 of my friends that installed the Leopard software, they both said it was easies installion that they ever done .

605866 2007-10-27 20:32:00 APE, short for "Application Enhancer" is a third-party app (look at com.unsanity.ape.plist - this signifies that it's an app called "APE" from unsanity.com) that has deep and potentially unsafe hooks (/hacks) into the system, to modify applications and system functions. It's not really a surprise that it screws up when an entirely new version of the OS is dropped in there in front of it (It should check this, and not load...)(censored: remove "An APE on either side of the keyboard then?" ; substitute
Ape? Apt! )

An hour and a half??? Thats a long time to install an OS. Too long for such an up to date one at that. Even Vista takes less, and with upgrades as well. :badpc:

605869 2007-10-28 00:16:00 Yeah, a clean install of Vista takes say about an hour. An upgrade is even faster so Safari must be crazy or just a Mac user I think to think 1.5 hours is fast. beeswax34 (63)

605871 2007-10-28 06:31:00 OS X is fine with SATA drives if thats what your referring to, as long as they're on Apple's hardware.

Judging by the amount of people wanting to install Leopard on their PCs at the moment it will be interesting to see if Apple counters it or whether they just leave it as is. Aside from gaming it is easy enough to put Windows on a Mac for the millions who will do just that.

605872 2007-10-28 06:49:00 Haha, even with OSX, people still have to install Windows to make up for Apples shortcomings. beeswax34 (63)
