2009-05-14 00:04:00 | My neighbor has a tower with 3 HDDs with XP pro,Ubuntu, and Mepis on them. She wants me to get rid of the 2 linux OS's and just have XP.I "think" I know what to do but want a second opinion before I proceed and do something wrong thus destroying a very good "working" relationship. Could I get a step thru to do this?I have Ubuntu live cd and the Mepis live CD but no CD for XP pro. My method would be to use gparted to reformat the linux disks then fdisk/fixmbr

It's easy enough to remove the Linux installs, but you will probably need to rewrite the MBR and such for the XP drive - which may require at least booting to a recovery console form an XP CD, though I haven't tried using Ubuntu or Mepis to do this so it may be possible to do off either of those CDs. | inphinity (7274) | ||
2009-05-14 01:52:00 | Current BL is GRUB but my understanding is if grub is removed then repairing the XP MBR is all that is required. | kjaada (253) | |

2009-05-14 03:31:00 | Thats what I thought but I do not have the CD for the actual version installed so will any XP disk do (I have 2 but not XP pro) have XP pro for Toshiba laptop and XP ordinary.Am I not able to get a recovery consul with a keystroke during bootup and put fixmbr in? | kjaada (253) | |
2009-05-14 03:47:00 | Nope, the recovery console is not part of the installed boot options, so you will need a CD. If the Toshiba one is just an OEM edition it should work fine. What do you mean by "XP ordinary"? XP Home? | inphinity (7274) | |
2009-05-14 04:13:00 | Problem solved.Just downloaded supergrub: | kjaada (253) | |
