The new 8800GT 512MB 65nm is kicking some fairly large ass, and has been available in NZ roughly since last Friday. Can be found for around $400-500+GST. In a nut shell this card is faster than the 8800GTS 640MB that currently sells for at least $150 more.

ATI's RV670 is due out in two weeks and a Refresh of the 8800GTS 640 MB details as just been released, however I can't see them beating the 8800GT 512MB performance/price ratio.

606491 2007-10-30 02:12:00 Planning to get one in a few weeks time when price stabilizes, looks like performance is closer to the GTX than the GTS with mild overclocks getting it up to GTX performance!

According to Anandtech the card should drop to around US$200, so the NZ$500+ many retailers are asking is criminal, the price should drop to around atleast $450 shortly.

The rumors I've heard suggest the RV670/3870 wont out perform the 2900XT although The Inquirer seems to think otherwise.

Yea I agree it is closer to GTX performance, and overclock it and it is about the same.

Prices are a tad steep in NZ. Nvidia predicted US$250 which is about NZ$376 ish including NZ GST. The cheapest I have seen so far is US$230 with many US sites listing them at around US$270.

I just nabbed one for NZ$450 incl so it actually is not bad considering we always get slightly ripped here in NZ due to buying power and often more handling. $450 is still cheaper than even the 8800GTS 320MB on most NZ sites, so its all good.

606493 2007-10-30 03:28:00 $450 seems to be about right, I really just want to see how the 3870 performs first before making a decision. I'd be more than happy to pay $450 for either although I'm keen to try and get a hold of an overclocked one with around 660MHz on the core and maybe 1900MHz+ for the memory.

I'm guessing when i get a hold of Crysis, Hellgate London and the full version of Unreal Tournament 3 the price wont matter too much and I'll just want the card.

606495 2007-10-30 08:36:00 Yes, alot of people have been waiting for this card, a very clever progression by nv, but with the revised GTS coming nov 19th, it should over take the gtx!!!

AMD is in trouble, intel release penryn nov 12th, anand oc'd an ES to 4ghz with the stock cooler, so AMD better have a very special card\performance\price to hard launch in 2wks or i cant see it coming back!

Doubt the revised GTS will overtake the GTX everything I've heard suggest its will only get an upgrade to 112 shaders, still less than the GTX. It wouldn't make sense for the GTS to all of a sudden become faster than a GTX.

606497 2007-10-30 08:46:00 Holy god, you guys should take a look at the influx of second-hand 8800GTS auctions on trademe!

And most are asking for the same price of a new 8800GT or even more! Disgusting.

Oh, i may have it wrong, but i thought the revised gts will overtake the gtx and the new gtx comes out next year.

gts comes out on new 65 with same tweaking as the gt! its cheaper for nv to fab the gts over the gtx, so if its faster than gtx, all good no!
