605927 2007-10-28 03:59:00 The linux driver project guys are looking for targets... (linux.slashdot.org) and they want your input  Erayd (23)
605928 2007-10-28 04:10:00 WINMODEMS!!!
And wifi cards.

605929 2007-10-28 04:25:00 Wifi cards are coming - kernel 2.6.22 got a total overhaul of the wifi stack, now it's just waiting for the drivers to get finished and Linux wifi support should get a LOT better. Erayd (23)
605930 2007-10-28 05:30:00 Vodems. (Although victim support might be more appropriate for victims of these infernal money suckers.) R2x1 (4628)
605931 2007-10-28 06:22:00 Oh! USB based ADSL modems. Not routers, MODEMS. bob_doe_nz (92)
605932 2007-10-28 07:22:00 Perhaps they should put their energy into creating a unified driver package that would simplify driver downloads/installs. It would be considerably easier if I could download a single file and have it automatically install and configure the driver for me. Pete O'Neil (6584)

With linux device drivers, they're all integrated into the kernel itself, either compiled directly in or as an add-on module. The only reason you'd ever be installing a driver in another way is if you are running an older kernel (which doesn't contain your driver), the driver is so new and/or unstable that it hasn't made it into a kernel release yet, or licensing issues prevent it from being included.

On another note, here is an interesting take (www.apreche.net) on the current driver situation.
