605480 2007-10-25 23:07:00 Does anyone find the whole Trevor Mallard debarcle a very nice distraction from the other issues which the media would have jumped up and down about? Like the Electoral Financing Bill - Labour's attempts to further jeopardise democracy in NZ? Or the new Supression of Terrorism Ammendment Bill passed on Wednesday night, giving the Prime Minister full and exclusive rights to say who is and isn't a terrorist?

Given the recent attention of the police raids, and the speculation of it being politically motivated, the media could have had a fieldday with this.

Now I wonder why Mallard has been let off so lightly by Clark and co...

605481 2007-10-25 23:19:00 Good on him for giving the fool a crack.

Granted...Mallard makes my skin crawl, But the other guy got personal, and then grabbed him by his neck tie.

crack.

My respect for him just jumped above zero.

As for the other issue, Lets see the Maori party apologize for their malicious propaganda.

Helen Clarke nothing, I am suprised Sue Bradford let him off without some "Time out" (preferably in the middle of a large intersection)

Thats what they pay their spin doctors for. The media in NZ also provide us with very poor service, and focus on the trival stuff that appeals to people who love gossip. NZ media coverage on real business and politics news is abysmal.

I'm not sure she'll let him off lightly - a cabinet reshuffle next week. Mallard has said that he expects a demotion from his no. 7 spot.

Though I reckon that National would not have done more if it had been Tau Henare that did the slapping. They have so little talent that they couldn't afford to lose a single member from their shadow cabinet.

Henare says that Mallard has apologised profusely and that he has accepted the apology.
