605451 2007-10-25 21:57:00 Hi Guys

Sketchy details and my (sketchy memory) but just now Paul Reynolds promised all New Zealanders much faster broadband with the next few years.

I like him much more than I did Theresa Gattung (but that would not be too hard)

I think this was part of a Telecom release on its plan to split itself up into 3 divisions which will be released to the public today.

Regards

605453 2007-10-25 22:43:00 If he's talking about it now, it means that it has been in the planning stages for some time ie during the time Theresa was Boss. It's a bit early to give Reynolds any credit, give him time to unpack :)

From the Herald

""Specifically, we plan to install more fast ADSL2+ technology, more fibre to the street, and create a next generation network capable of supporting a wide range of world class internet Protocol-based services for our wholesale and retail customers," he said."

That's been the intention for at least 8-10 years so far.

605454 2007-10-25 22:52:00 As a home user, What I have is plenty fast enough for me.

What I would like is value for money.

Ramping up the speed and of course the prices won't have any positive outcome for me. I pay too much as it is.

Give me 40GB for the price I currently pay and I would be impressed, Then I would be able to make use of my current connection, Rather then having to monitor use and then spend the last week of the month crippled.

Its all a rort.

Theresa never promised anything ! and never mentioned specific technologies and equipment etc.

Yawn.
Lets see, Akld, Wgtn, Ch/Ch first. Everyone else slowly over the next 50 years or so.
Then theres all those little piddly places that have no broadband at all at present. 100 years.

They already told us here they don't care, thers no money in it for them.

Its all hot air.

605457 2007-10-25 23:45:00 I have some cheese from somewhere close to pctek that proudly claims to be "aged for up to 12 months". That includes 5 minutes.
Telecoms promises will involve you having more salt in your diet than health providers recommend and more disappointment than is good for you, but on the bright side you will have no real need for laxatives.

From 2003

"It is now fairly common knowledge in the telecommunications industry that Telecom has entered into a long-term agreement with Alcatel, which will be the primary supplier of equipment for Telecom's Next Generation Network (NGN)."

www.telepermit.co.nz

This was from the Engineering perspective. There would have been many other press releases over the years from the Marketing side.

If Alcatel had been chosen by 2003, the process had started long before that. However as pctek says when the accountants want to know if there's money in it things can grind to a halt.

605460 2007-10-26 08:00:00 You have to give credit where credit is due.I don't now Paul Reynolds from a bar of soap. But what I have seen so far of him, is a man with genuine intent to bring this country back from the wilderness that it has been in for the past 8 years.Blame Theresa Guttang! for that. Quite literally!.I like what I see of this man,and I think N.Z is now in safe hands.Good luck to Telecom.....and I look forward to respectable internet speed in the near future.
