| 774275 | 2009-05-16 00:17:00 | My fault. I was getting on to the internet when I noticed I still had a switch on to a battery charger so I turned it off. And of course hit the wrong switch turning off my computer just as it was busy. It has lost power before with no problems but this time it now refuses to boot up. I get a message :- Warning !! Some changes in chipset or clock setings caused boot failure. Defaults for these settings have been loaded. At this point I am offered F1(to continue) DEL (to enter SETUP/Q-Flash) F9 (for express recoverY) But nothing works, the beast is dead. Unfortunately because of constant moves, mods by dodgy technicians, climate warming etc I have no disks for recovery etc I use XT What do I do? Tom |

| 774276 | 2009-05-16 00:29:00 | Umm well its not dead then. If it tells you to press those keys. Remove the CMOS jumper on the mobo, for 1 min. Then put it back. Then see what happens. If the keyboard doesnt work, try another keyboard If it goes after that, go into the BIOS reset it to the defaults, then reconfigure the BIOS then save the settings |

| 774278 | 2009-05-16 00:33:00 | If you can't press any of those buttons, you probably have a USB keyboard & an older motherboard or BIOS that by default (as the defautls have been reset) doesn't support a USB keyboard. Plug in a PS/2 keyboard and try. | inphinity (7274) | ||

| 774284 | 2009-05-16 04:47:00 | Lots of good advice still rolling in. I have tried the DEL and waiting - nothing. I found an old keyboard and full of joy tried to install it. But no socket anywhere to plug the thing in. Dismantling the computer and getting inside is the sort of thing I loved to do many years ago but sadly old age and poor health makes that impossible. I must just accept the fact that now its time to call in a technician who knows what he is doing. Sadly my favourite one has decided he has had enough of fixing computers and has taken himself off to university. Even undoing all the cables and lifting the thing off the ground is not what I should be doing. I will keep you all informed (better than Coronation Street!). |
