773959 2009-05-15 00:37:00 After the launch of Phenom II 920 and 940 parts for AM2+ sockets
the newly launched Phenom II 955 and 940 are for AM3 motherboards only.

I am buying a AM2+ motherboard and what i would like to know is will AMD be releasing more AMD Phenom II for AM2+ slots in future??

I am planning on getting a cheapy Phenom or X2 CPU for now and then when prices fall for Phenom II for AM2+ slots then i can upgrade BUT i am not sure if AMD will drop the Phenom II for AM2+ slots now or in very near future in which case I may not even get a Phenom II for AM+2

Any ideas how long AMD will be pumping out more or newer Phenom II for AM2+ motherboards? Or is Phenom II 940 the last one for AM2+ socket and only AM3 will be released from here on ???? If that is the case then my AM2+ mb will be a waste :(

Thanks

773960 2009-05-15 00:48:00 A lot of good AM2+ boards support the AM3 CPUs unofficially, but I would imagine most of the new CPUs will be AM3. They'll probably continue to produce their entry-level products on an AM2+ platform for quite a while though. inphinity (7274)

The will probably continue with the range they have at the moment, but I would not expect to see anything majorly new.

If you have a AM2+ mb going to waste I can help you recycle it.
