A Consumers' Institute survey of almost 10,000 internet users is bad news for Xtra and Internet Service Providers in general.

The survey rates Xtra as the worst ISP for the third year running. Less than half of the company's subscribers are happy with its service.

Consumers' Institute chief executive Suzanne Chetwin says Telecom's repeated promises of improved services for broadband users have not been translated into reality.

Inspire was rated the best of the 16 major ISPs in the country, with 94 percent of its customers happy with its performance.

608412 2007-11-05 00:31:00 Who said they would never amount to anything? Let's award them 10 out of 10 for consistency.
(And with their weekend efforts Telecom are trying very hard to head next year's list too.)

Can we assume bitstream is broadband?

Telecom are apparently blaming New Zealander 'high expectations' for the bad ranking, and that NZers were early adopters. However that doesn't explain why other ISPs ranked ahead of them. ALso ADSL is hardly cutting edge technology in 2007

I think the major problem is that they contracted out their email services to Yahoo, and all the problems that continue to occur is a major reason for the low ranking and why they alot of xtra customers are not happy.

608420 2007-11-05 04:38:00 I always find it funny that "communications" companies do badly in these surveys etc when most of the problems are probably due to poor communications.

Ie being able to get hold of a knowledgeable technician in a good time frame.
