607666 2007-11-02 05:01:00 Our TV maybe on the blink, I would just like opinion as to whether or not its worth getting looked at. By my logic all the components are the same age, so if one fails the rest are probably not to far behind.

Shes about 12 years only, Big arse Sony, she was top of the range when bought, about 6 grand I believe.

Anyhow, The picture just blinks off, sound carries on as normal, Turn her off and back on and shes all good until the next time.

True about craptastic tv programs, one hopes sister inlaw doesn't get to upset as you whisk her set away.

Nothing worse than seeing a woman cry.

Could be quite a lot of things causing that, not nessecarily the tube is at fault at all.

Maybe as simple as just a bad connection or faulty part in the high voltage supply

Might be cheaper to repair than you'd expect, as for being 12 years old, well most common problems are dust and dry solder joints, fix that as well as whatever's wrong with it now and it'll probably go for another 12 years just fine.

Highly unlikely to be the tube, in my experience tubes do not exhibit that behaviour. It is quite possibly a dry joint so next time give it a bit of impact persuaion on the side or top of the cabinet Metla to see if it can be jarred back on.

If it faults reliably (contradiction in terms there!) it is probably worth having it looked at. I'm running a 20+ year old Panasonic as a bedroom set that has never blinked, and until we got an LCD last Christmas we had a 23 year old 26" Panasonic still running fine. That generation of electronics was very reliable and built to last so I think the Sony is worth giving a chance.

Cheers

607675 2007-11-02 09:29:00 Had the same issue on my sony, about 9years old, $280 job in hamilton, cant remember what it was though, I think is was a connection to sometihng or rather.

They actually quoted it for 350 so at least they were honest.
