607752 2007-11-02 09:36:00 Used to smoke, gave up around 3+ years ago. Cold turkey after a long bout of non-stop asthma (3 months non-stop, nothing seemed to work as I was always wheezing... very unusual for me, I think the reason was trying to acclimatise to the colder damp of Taranaki). Also my daughter was only a few months old and I decided I wanted to be around for many years to come (I figured the constant wheezing wasn't good for my lungs and would age them faster than normal).

My g/f still smokes however, I don't push it on her to give up, she will when shes ready (as I was)
What they say is true, The cravings get futher apart and less severs as time goes on, But they are hardly earth shattering to begin with, Eat an apple, Play a video game.True.

... and people are weak:waughh:)Very true

607753 2007-11-02 15:11:00 When I worked at that hospital in LA a while ago there was a guy in the TB ward...not that he had TB, but it was the best place to put him...

Well, anyway...he had cancer of the throat from cigarettes for years and a small chrome button in his throat to breathe...as his nose was missing and so was the upper half of his throat and his lower jaw.

He would light a cigarette and unplugging his oxygen from his neck he'd hold it into the little chrome hole in his throat to inhale the smoke.

Did I mention the thick brown and green mucus that dripped out of his little chrome hole?

He looked so sophisticated and socially cool. :dogeye:

607758 2007-11-02 16:51:00 I gave up after 55 years and 20 a day about 18 months ago.

I used nicotine gum, which did it for me

I still miss the comfort thing after a cuppa. But not hard to resist.

I still don't like people who resent other people who choose to smoke, strange buggers.

Its funny when i told some people here Ive quit smoking, I get the 'you used to smoke? how could you?' look, makes me want to keep smoking just to get at them.

607760 2007-11-02 17:47:00 I gave up after going to a strange hypnotherapist . . . .

I'm the world's biggest sceptic (that's sceptic- not septic) . . . went in there going "Yeah yeah, like this'll work" . Walked out the door after 1/2 an hour and that was it . 1 year almost to the day and I haven't even had a puff, or even wanted one . . . now if someone could just stop me eating :help:

Anyway, for anyone thinking of giving up and like me tried all sorts . . . cold turkey, patches, aversion therapy . . . I'd highly recommend the hypno, even if you're a sceptic (seems to work better with no expectations of success) It was so god damn easy it wasn't funny! .

Can't say I feel much different, but I did get a new LCD TV out of it and I'm going for Metla's Harley next week
