Interesting that Vodafone/ihug and Xtra were in the bottom, considering they are duopoly in the mobile market, and are tier one providers. I would have though xnet would have ranked better, and would have expected Slingshot to be near the very bottom too. It appears that it is the teir 2 & 3 providers that do the best. (Apart from Kiwi online which ranks badly) Personally I have found the cutomers service of both Telecom and Vodafone good, but their relibility (eg email problems and outages) and billing errors let them down for me.

I'm quite surprised that Slingshot wasn't further down, and that Xnet is below Orcon

608433 2007-11-05 18:43:00 "A Consumers' Institute survey of almost 10,000 internet users ...

Inspire was rated the best of the 16 major ISPs in the country, with 94 percent of its customers happy with its performance."

Of the 10,000 surveyed only 178 were Inspire customers. Do they even have enough customers to overload 1 staff member and the smallest connections :)

Othe ISPs had even fewer participants in this survey. Consumer left out ISPs with less than 30 respondents, what other steps did they take to account for the margins for error?

608434 2007-11-05 21:47:00 I agree PaulD it may not take a degree in rocket science to work out that a bigger isp might have more complaints.
Inspire is probaly being run from a spare bedroom in a house.
Wish people would stop knocking xtra all the time

Xtra is on the slack side, you must agree, but consumer quite often get it wrong due to suspect methods.

608436 2007-11-05 22:34:00 man im so sick of telecom its horrible the only reason im still on them is because i have that unlimited plan, and use it

i had a problem with connecting to the ea download site for my online purchases and telecom said its nothing to do with them

i took my computer to another house on the same plan in a different area and it downloaded fine

after which i rang them back explaining it had worked.

They said it wasnt their problem and ended the conversation.

Pretty much i wont change isp till we starat paying for speed and not for usage, which will never happen, looks like aim stuck until that day then. cant afford anything more.

Accordng to the media (infotech in dompost) Orcon is still a tier 2 provider. As it is now a State owned entity with Kordia(eg we all own it) it will probably become a tier 1 provider before too long.
