774140 2009-05-15 09:06:00 Hi,

:crying
My pooter is not good enough for being able to run Windows DVD

After spending hours going round in circles I at last found this:-

video cards must support Direct X or higher and support WDDM drivers

As far as I can see my graphics card is a standard VGA graphics adapter
Is it possible to get that which is needed -say a minimum with in a reasonable price and what brand can you give it?

I am having my,"3rd time round" + 21 st (+ )
birthday soon so perhaps I could be in line for a cheaper version as a birthday present
I have a 40 gB h/d ( for this program )3.01 Ghz C P U,1 gb ram and so far I have W 7 running well on it- only the graphics situation crops up when I go play some games-" not a good enough video card " )

If this is impossible I will have to leave the W 7 RC and at best stay with the Beta version till it runs out

774141 2009-05-15 09:17:00 How about a 4670? Fast but won't break the bank.

Try to get an Asus, Gigabyte or XFX

774142 2009-05-15 09:47:00 Hi Blam 6

That is what I will go for - within reason, even if I have to drop large hints at what I want ;)---- and you gave me a starting point
Just one question---I cannot see the full 2.35 GB file anywhere-any ideas how to dig it up?
At times I prefer XP Pro as for an good OS example it has "search" and the search on w 7 beta, cannot seem to see any stored file- yet it shows on the graph of h/d usuage

774143 2009-05-15 10:09:00 Just search *.iso on your computer and it'll show up all iso files. Blam (54)
774144 2009-05-15 10:13:00 Have you installed a program to burn the ISO? Speedy Gonzales (78)
774145 2009-05-15 22:42:00 Hi Blam6 and Speedy,
DSE quote a video card ASUS at $149.00, which I will go get-thanks Blam6
Speedy,
I have a DVD burner and I have Nero, are those that I want in terms installing a program to burn etc?

774146 2009-05-15 22:46:00 Nero should do it so will something like burnaware free or easy iso burner which is also free gary67 (56)
774147 2009-05-15 22:54:00 As mentioned in post #3 - that ISO recorder is almost idiot proof - hardest part is finding where you put the ISO file, and what speed to burn at --- and never had a failure yet.

As for graphic Cards - W7 doesn't need that much depending on what you are doing - my workshop PC's only have FX5200's - and they run fine, only thing I have done that it struggles a bit is with games.

774148 2009-05-15 23:11:00 Hi,
Have just been talking to a repair shop who built this pooter 4 years ago
The ASUS card Blam6 spoke of will not go in this machine-they have one that should do it $90 ( plus fitting I assume).
They also cannot do an install today, so I am on my own
They say that the existing card (?) I have has not had the drivers installed and have given me a windows update site to get them
According to Wainui I should still be able to operate as it is

re *.ISO the computer takes me back to an existing window that does not show this big file that has to be in it, though I don't see where the file can be got at
I am less worried about the games , much as I might like the speed-I just want to install W7 RC and then work from there
Sorry to be thick but at my age----;)

774149 2009-05-16 00:20:00 Your computer must be using AGP.

Installing the card should be simple, just open up the side of the case, pop in the card, there chould be a 'click' then you're done:)

Wanuitech-its not the power of the cards, its just that the card needs to support Direct X 9.

Its unlikely it does, but boot from the windows 7 dvd and see.

You can always upgrade later:)

or run this:
www.microsoft.com

It'll test if the PC is capable of running 7.

How did you download the iso file?

If you still can't fine it you may have to download it again...but if you search for all files with .iso extension larger than 2gb you should easily fine it.
