In their creepy-crawly ways they are willing to lay down their lives for their nest and bypass sexual activities to tend the offspring of others . It seems that they also have a sense of their own lifespan ( . independent . co . uk/sci_tech/article3052357 . ece?source=rss_science" target="_blank">news . independent . co . uk) and adjust their risk-taking accordingly . . . . . volunteering for more dangerous missions . . . . . like distant foraging . . . . . or Narfle The Garthok as they get closer to the end of their usefulness to the colony . Dr . Dawid Moron and his colleagues at Jagiellonian University in Poland did some experiments with manipulating the lifespan of ants and found that they changed their taste for danger accordingly . . . . . I think they made them smoke to stunt their growth . If humans worked this way, I suppose we'd have a lot of 80 y/o cops, Army recruits and Indy racers . We DO get a lot of them as nude sky divers . . . but that's a different story . |
