| 607486 | 2007-11-01 23:17:00 | Well my mum recently purchased a computer (her first ever) laptop (from a large retailer) and it came with Vista, from what i can tell it came with a printer a canon photosmart (photosmart c3180) she went to use it today and plugged the printer in to the computer, and it didn't work so she rang the shop and was told she should go to HP and download the printer update for Vista I think that is pretty poor service, if you are selling a printer with a computer you should at least provide the printer driver that will work with the operating system thats on the computer, my mothers is not computer literate at all, and the driver to download is either 160mb (fully featured version) or 35mb (cut down version) which will take forever on dialup. My mothers up in morrinsville so i have offered to download and post the driver up, but i would have expected more from the retailer Am i being pedantic or does that just seem stupid. |

Here was me thinking an OS should come with drivers already built in. Well the real computer shop I brought mine from did, and that was HN |

Well the real computer shop I brought mine from did, and that was HN HNs was where this was purchased from, and i think the printer was included in the package (but don't quote me), so it seems ludicrous to me that they didn't make sure that the printer would work with the computer without at least supplying a driver disk that had the correct drivers for the OS that the computer was running, Surely if they sell such a high quantity of computers this would be seen as sensible as it would cut down on calls to tech support, besides if they sell a tonne of computers they can afford a support staff to install the relevant drivers for the computer bundles they sell especially at the prices they charge |

| 607491 | 2007-11-02 00:28:00 | I have struck this as well . People bought a Vista desktop and printer (not sure if it was a package or not) from Noel Leeming and got me to set everything up . I soon discovered that the printer's drivers didn't include Vista versions and had to download a 300mb+ file to get it working . As for a "real computer shop", you may ensure that your customers have the correct drivers installed pctek, but unless a shop is setting a system up in someone's home for them I doubt very much that most of them would do the same . They would just hand the boxes over and say "There ya go", just like the big retailers . |

Maybe not if they bought the printer elsewhere. I sold a PC yesterday and the lady had an old scanner, I checked it had a driver for XP and downloaded it onto the PC so she could set it up when she got it home. I didn't set it up at her home for her......... |

They are another Australian owned retailer(we have been taken over by them in NZ)and appear to be more interested in selling, rather than providing a service. |
