774478 2009-05-16 23:07:00 Running a SOYO Ultra Platinum, Dragon mobo and an Athlon XP, I have the SOYO HW Monitor running at startup and while performing the two day long backup to get files off a slowly dying hdd, I noticed that the voltages and numbers are bouncing around a lot.

Here's some of them - I wonder if I can get some input here:

CPU 101ºF/38.33ºC - CPU Fan = 2245 RPM
CHA 115ºF/46.11ºC - CHA Fan = 4963 RPM
Vcore = 1.74V
VCC1.8V = 3.31V
3.3V = 2.87V
+12V = 10.3V
+5V = 5.1V
5VSB = (floating a lot) 2.09V to 5.01V

Is it normal for a Coolermax PSU to float voltages like that? Is the red report telling me that I am losing a PSU? I have the GUI to soft-set the voltages, but if they float much, I might toast the CPU or accidentally wind up in overclock hell.

774479 2009-05-17 04:41:00 1) Knackered power supply.
2) Knackered motherboard.

Its similar to what happened to my brothers recently, his PSU was stuffed.

I never looked - as I assumed that the software in the HW monitor would let me set the BIOS voltages at the same time .

Do you think that the BIOS voltages are incorrectly set? Hmmm!

The HW monitor is by the manufacturer of the mobo and I just assumed . . . . . . .

Well - we all know what "assumed" means . :illogical .

The last time I played with the BIOS was because of the Chernobyl - W95 . CIH . damaged worm and it was a payload that I didn't want to mess with .

My son and I sweated it out on April 13th a few years ago .

Another thing, the latest BIOS is a few years old by now and it hasn't changed since the last time (I looked) .

Do you think I might need to do it again? That's kinda scary .

Are you suggesting that the BIOS should be checked against the voltages that are suggested in the SOYO-HW monitor?

774487 2009-05-18 01:56:00 Sounds like the PSU is stuffed, and probably why the HDD is dying.

Get a new one ASAP before everything else does. Like Pctek says, Raidmax are junk.

Especially with a 5vSB line dropping to 2volts like that :yuck:

Then again it could be the motherboard and its voltage sensors... check with a multimeter the voltages, if they are the same as what the motherboard sensors are telling you then the PSU is definitely the problem
