2007-11-08 21:25:00 | Sorry about starting a new thread but it doesn't seem right to hijack Metla's one . A family member is wanting music whilst on the road and is looking at buying an iPod . I have informed him that iPods are not the only MP3 players around but before I can convince him to look at others I need to know whether they will suit his purpose or not . Firstly he wants to plug it in to his car radio so as to output to the vehicle's speakers . Secondly it needs to be very robust as he does a fair bit of serious off-road driving . He will have to secure it somehow so that it doesn't get thrashed around so it would be good if it has some kind of accessory available for this purpose . Thirdly it needs to be compatible with iTunes . This is very important . If it can't do iTunes then it will have to be an iPod . Playing music is all he is interested in so it has to be nice and easy to use for that purpose . Any suggestions? :help:

2007-11-08 21:32:00 | Imo the single biggest negative with an Ipod is iTunes, so if thats what he wants to use, an iPod would have to be his best choice. | Metla (12) | |
2007-11-08 21:51:00 | there is a program around that lets you sync other players to itunes. I have posted it before on a thread. The other factor is to make sure it uses a flash drive and not a hard drive(especially if your off roading) | plod (107) | |
2007-11-08 22:00:00 | If it's going to be thrashed around, then a flash-based player will be more suitable than a hard-disk based player, as they're more resilient to vibrations etc. | somebody (208) | |

However, just to mention that he does necessarily have to plug it in. I have an iTrip which I use with my iPod and it works great wirelessly. There is even a better device which has been put on the market since I bought my iTrip. If you are interested I will track down the details (someone gave very good info on an earlier thread). I was hoping I wouldn't hear that . iTunes is what his mates and another family member have got and dragging him back from the dark side is an impossible mission . there is a program around that lets you sync other players to itunes . I have posted it before on a thread . The other factor is to make sure it uses a flash drive and not a hard drive(especially if your off roading) If he has to frig around with other programs then he's not going to bother but thanks for that info anyway . Flash drive rather than hard drive sounds the way to go . Sad . If he needs a recommendation then it should be to get help for that i attitude . Hey, I'm trying!! :dogeye: Hi Foxy I know that your basic question is not this . However, just to mention that he does necessarily have to plug it in . | 609652 | 2007-11-08 23:57:00 | A few questions, Foxy: If he wishes to "plug it into" the car radio, does the radio set have a "line-in" port? Otherwise, did you mean "plug it in" in the sense that the mp3 player is going to wirelessly transmit the music into the radio set? Or, did you mean either way? :p With regards to your comment that "it must be iTunes".... I don't suppose Windows Media Player is that hard to learn, since the interface is universally similar across all players? Cheers :) |
