| 609281 | 2007-11-07 21:04:00 | I'm sure there are complaints elsewhere but didn't see a specific thread. The amount of spam we are getting through Xtra is very annoying. Quite a lot of it is Russian which I can't read and who knows, there may be some amazing deals or dollybirds I'm missing out on...... The point is, before Xtra moved to Yahoo, we were getting no spam. Other people tell me the same. Now nearly half our email is spam. I report spam faithfully every day on webmail but it makes no difference. Anyone know what the problem is - is everyone getting the same? |

Prior to my moving ,Telecom charged me $20 a month for all calls to Ch Ch,as soon as I moved over they offered that service with no charge and Gatung got 2 mill for that, someone wants to be shot . Or flogged at least . |

Geez Winston . You know that Telecomms meeting we had out in Wyndham about coverage etc? The survey results came back: The majority are using Xtra 64% rated the service as "terrible" . It amazes me that people stick with them . 1)They are expensive . 2)Their helpdesk sucks . 3)The spam problem as you mentioned . 4)Yahoo bubble . The list goes on and on . Especially number 1 . |

| 609285 | 2007-11-07 23:20:00 | I note that nobody has actually answered Winston's question yet... And neither can I, I'm sorry, as I've held off on signing up for Yahoo/Bubble. I don't need to see my webmail until leaving town - which I've not done since its introduction. (Admittedly, I've been curious whether emails I wanted had gone to its spam folder, but have taken that chance) So all I can do is report that my "old unchanged" Outlook Express on Xtra is coping quite well with spam - down from about 5 a day at the time of the change to 1 or 2 now. But I'm also interested in Winston's answer, as every so often I wonder if I should take the Yahoo jump. Is it worth it or will give me grief? (Don't just say leave Xtra. I probably will later when I need my webmail, but it's not convenient just now) |

I probably will later when I need my webmail, but it's not convenient just now) I have heard that Xtra are having a major issue with their Yahoo spam filtering system . Because is all all now controlled offshore Xtra NZ have little control over it . Yahoos systmes have blacklisted the IP numbers of several NZ ISPs, which means that legitimate email sent using these ISPs is going into Yahoos Bulk Mail filter, yet a lot of real spam is getting through . It is a terrible situation, and I would recommend using an ISP who actually uses NZ servers for their email and have control over their spam filtering systems . Laura, I am sure that legitimate emails are going into your Bulk mail folder as several NZ ISPs smtp servers have been incorrectly blacklisted by Yahoos filtering . I know this is terrible, and XTra don't really seem to care about it . Their suggestion to peoples whos email is being treated as spam, to do the following, which is obviously not possible to those people who either don't use webmail, or refuse to agree to Yahoos T&Cs We suggest that you instruct your clients to add your email address to their Whitelist . To set up a Whitelist all that is needed is to add the email addresses wanted to your Online Contacts . This will allow the emails to be delivered into the inbox without being filtered by the Spam filter . This rule only applies to Online Webmail contacts, not to addresses in your Outlook contact list . For further online assistance please visit www . xtra . co . nz/help . Please see this threaad for more details . co . nz/showthread . php?t=84221" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz Unfortionately the media don't seem to be catching onto this problem, although the stuff website did have a brief article on this, and the link is in the thread above . |

| 609288 | 2007-11-08 00:01:00 | The situation is hopeless. :( I couldnt get anywhere with Xtra so I packed my toys and headed off to Kinect. Must say Ive not had one Spam since and there hasnt been any downside. However, this isnt that easy to do with a business where youve many clients and a lot of pre printed stationary. In to boot, a news item the other day had Trade Me kicking up because Xtra had had an outage and people missed out on auctions etc. Trade Me was running fine, but when Xtra were advised there response was Its only effected 15,000 clients Only 15,000 aye, hardly worth fixing. :waughh: Unfortunately, Trade Me got the blame by some people which didnt please them a great deal either. Now that the business seems to be run by Yahoo, it seems there are few options other than voting with your feet. Doesnt answer your question Winston but I really fear your not going to find one. :( |

Have you done as suggested, "To set up a Whitelist all that is needed is to add the email addresses wanted to your Online Contacts. This will allow the emails to be delivered into the inbox without being filtered by the Spam filter." You can import your contact list from Outlook or Outlook Express into webmail. I don't get many spam messages getting through but often the one's that do have the same subject and content as spam that is quite old and has been blocked in the past. |

| 609290 | 2007-11-08 00:07:00 | The amount of spam I get has dropped from the initial very high levels. Maybe 2-5 a day now. I get annoyed when some is delivered with obvious key words in the subject matter which should have been filtered out. I usually empty the spam folder without looking at the contents as I have had only one email end up there which was not spam. Others have had problems with this, especially Trademe people. The online Yahoo Bubble is very handy to delete all the spam and check on the emails put into the spam folder before you download onto your home computer. |
