610654 2007-11-12 06:46:00 sure do... but what do i need firewire for? i don't have any firewire devices except for the motherboard:lol:

my mates happen to already have the adobe software lying around on varous harddrives, so i'll probably be up and running in a few days:D

As Speedy said, Firewire is the prefered method of capturing Video. It basically means you can transfer and edit in real time.

610655 2007-11-12 06:57:00 USB is still realtime, Seeing as your not transferring as such but playing it on one end,and capturing it on the other.

Thus capturing the media via USB still takes the exact amount of time as firewire (the duration of the media) However the recodered material is in every case I have seen restricted to the low detail and resolutionof MPEG1.

So, takes the same amount of time, Looks crap.

Which of course won't matter if it is recorded on a low quality camera.

Of course, If its just an AVI recorded onto a memory card then none of that applies, You will be just dragging and dropping it to the PC.

Are you intending to use the full version of Premiere?

610657 2007-11-12 09:27:00 Swish, let me know if you struggle with the learning curve.

I'd suggest you get a more user freindly app as well, Just so you can learn about video editing, rather then just spending the time learning a complicated program.

Are you in or near Auckland? If so I would be happy to give you a demonstration of Pinnacle's Studio 8. I have version 8.12 and find it easy to learn and use. I do not think that it does pixilate, but it certainly does most other things that you might want. You require a firewire, of course, and a fairly large HD as you can use up to 15Gb for 30 mins of rendered video. You can output back to the camera tape or you can burn it to disc - mpg, DVD, etc.
I am more than happy to help and give you the benefit of my experience - I have been shooting and editing video and sound for the past 20 years. It can be fun and very rewarding.

Premiere does not recognise USB as a DV input. Premiere uses Firewire. From memory neither does Pinnacle although its a while since I used it.

You did mention it was a helmet cam. The relevance of the Firewire is that I don't think that you can capture the video on Premier using USB - unless of course your cam only has a USB port.
