Lazy bastards go on the sickness benefit for years they just tell their doctor they have depression or hurt their back slightly deeming their body useless for ever and that entitles them to free money. Yes. Thats a myth perpetuated by people who have never been in the situation where they have had to apply to WINZ for assistance. Yes, there are people like that who vegetate on the dole but the majority aren't. It is immensely difficult to get a sickness benefit. Not only do you have to see your own doctor but usually you have to see one of theirs too who are not interested in checking you out - they are there to reject your illness claim. And you have to repeat this exercise on a regular basis. Nor does it exempt you from being on their work schemes either. Only invalids does that. And if there is a partner, tough luck. Unless that partner is not working. In which case the partner is immediately joined up on their get you into any work they can scheme. Work is considered to be acceptable full time if it pays minimum wage, is 30 hours a week and it doesn't even have to be permanent. They aren't there to help you, contary to popular opinion - they are there to discourage you from using their services. They want you to go away. |

I thought it was unfair to ask a partner to support someone who doesnt live with them . Im sure by law, we dont actually reside at the same address, all of her details in medical systems ect reflect her house, and all of her mail still gets sent there and she IS paying rent there . Im sure there was a rule somewhere which determined where you live by how many days one stays at a partners house a week it might have been to do with Student Allowance . There possibly was a misunderstanding, perhaps my partner didnt explain the living situation correctly . There was another rule that came up, Im going to study next year and my partner said that in the meeting . The WINZ lady then said that I wont be able to get any kind of Student Allowance and my partner will have to support me . Though Im not entitled to that anyway because my parents actually have jobs (you cant get the student allowance if they have a combined income of about 60K) they will support me until Im 25 according to the government . I think they either need to really look at their support services or just completely drop them . Theres more people leeching from them than people getting real help from them . I know so many people with parents who have sat on a benefit of some kind for their whole adult life and it really pisses me off after going through this it did before hand too . Some of my friends are even starting to do it too, just go to the doctor and say they are depressed, get the benefit . I guess if you dont mind living on that sort of money, it seems like a pretty good deal . I dont get any kind of bonuses for actually working full time apart from the money I get paid from my employer . |

For all that,I suspect there is a decent # who are professional at getting away with it. |

Crooks are everywhere - in the Police, the Armed Forces, business, teaching, medicine, law, internet forums, prison officers, car mechanics, the Clergy, the hospitality industry. Hell, there are even crooks in Swannanoa. |

| 610786 | 2007-11-12 23:18:00 | Moral of this story – Telling the truth may be the right thing to do, unless it involves government money. The hospital sucks. WINZ is full of heartless bastards. well you have two options here: 1: say "f**k them", send your girlfriend back saying you two broke up because you can't support her, and maybe move back into your respective flats 2: say "F**k them", ditch one of the flats and officially move in together to cut your expenses seriously, if you can't get a benefit paying two sets of rent/bills isn't going to help the situation. if she has too much stuff, you move into her place. if that still wont work, you'd be surprised how little you actually need. i mean, sure you may want alot of things, but how much do you actually need to keep? - and you can use the saving in rent money to hire some storage too |

Hell, there are even crooks in Swannanoa. lol - my critical thinking course tells me that's a tu quoque fallacy thing just because A does something doesn't mean B should not stop doing the same (watch the double negative) it means that maybe both A&B should stop, or atleast get one stopped at a time, or there may be differences between A&B. | 610788 | 2007-11-13 03:27:00 | "two wrongs doesn't make a right" That wasn't my point. My point was that Cicero's statement is nothing more than a statement of the obvious. |
