610179 2007-11-10 23:33:00 Giving up any habit is tough . . . dope, smoke, booze, sex . . . anything!

The things we enjoy . . whether they are good for us or not . . . and any of those mentioned above are pleasurable, are hard to break if we agonize on the happiness they give us at the moment .

That to me is important . . . as humans we are limited to about 70-80 years and we want happiness and we want it right now . We don't have time to wait for results that might take years to manifest .

Nobody farms stalactites or stalagmites for a hobby either . . . . takes too long for them to grow .

All vices are fun and enjoyable and immediate .

Where's this go? Ya gotta find something else that's more enjoyable, that's where .

Ever have a crying baby with a bad attitude or just cranky? Put a cookie (NZ= bisquette or biskit or binky or something else silly) in ONE hand and you don't get much quietude .

BUT . . if you put a cookie in BOTH hands, you get instant silence . WHY? Because there's no room for further happiness than two hands full of treats to a baby .

Same-o with an adult . . . . fill the void; avoid the problem .

I was asked once if I smoked after sex . I said: "I don't know . . . . I never look" .

Oh . . . and by the way . . . I have never had a vice .

610182 2007-11-11 02:11:00 Well after seeing the other thread mutate into a witchhunt Im hoping this one will stay on track. I noticed there were quite a few who used to smoke but now have stopped.

I have stopped smoking for 5 weeks so far, havent really had the urge until the last couple of days.

Anyone got any tips or how they stopped or something to fight the urge?

TIA

I would strongly recommend hypnotherapy.....
this person is very good, has helped me with a few things.

Can't say, as I'm still smoking, but have to say, however weird it may sound, I hardly ever get sick from viruses or whatever. I've noticed this from at least ten years ago - I've had maybe one or two colds, nothing worse.

But my ex has been off smokes for over two years now and although she works in a pretty public place she's only stayed home sick for one day.

So yeah, I doubt there's any real correlation.

610186 2008-02-13 22:30:00 Yea, just really odd timing I guess. I find running harder, but that maybe to the smoking being replaced with eating hahaha

After running about 4 km I get quite buggered. I felt better running as a smoker....have no idea why.

Nicotine is an excellent insecticide. Perhaps its the cure for viruses too.:D
