I am also going to guess that english is a second language here, if so then as others have pointed out if she used the word "Partner" then this would be why WINZ assumed there was a "living together relationship" as opposed to boyfriend / girlfriend relationship. Gather up some mail each showing your address differs to hers and head back down and get it sorted.I missed that point. So yep totally agree. |

It almost sounds from your comment that you think ACC investing in the Stock Exchange would be a good thing. |

If I took a benfit I would dress in sack cloth and crawl on the ground in appreciation to the taxpayers who paid me the benifit. C1 |

| 610777 | 2007-11-12 19:13:00 | Hey all, Our situation is this she is my girlfriend, 2 years. She has her own flat where all her stuff is, she pays rent there but is basically using it as storage. She basically lives with me at my house, shed move in but she would have to get rid of heaps of her gear. So technically we arent living together as in, she has her own place and own bills but we ARE living together, if you catch my drift. So its probably a grey area to WINZ. The lady was really stubborn and mean to my girlfriend. Shes been through a lot, getting sick, the hospital and doctors not knowing what it is, having to quit her job, feeling too crap to do anything she just wants to get back to work and get her life back again. She was going to lie, because she had to deal with WINZ when she was like 16 and was denied the benefit because she lived with a boyfriend. She thought shed tell the truth so she didnt have to do all of the sneaking around, I guess that was her mistake. They marked her profile as her having a partner even though the meeting was meant to be off the record. By reading through the pamphlet she got, it seems that just having a partner that works full time is enough for them to deny you the benefit I didnt read anything about her having to be living with me. So the situation now is, we went to see her boss who luckily is lovely. And shes got her job back doing 4 hour days, starting at 11, and she just has to see how she manages. This is better than being on the benefit, she may not be feeling much better but sitting at home all day makes anyone depressed. She has to wait a few months to get the next test to try and find her problem hospital waiting system. Moral of this story Telling the truth may be the right thing to do, unless it involves government money. The hospital sucks. WINZ is full of heartless bastards. |

This is true but of course now clearer information shows they do actually live together. Rules are rules so I guess WINZ are right. Probably not the fairest rule in the world - but then again I am married and my wife does not work - I support her yet technically she could apply for the invalid benefit if she lied as well. I wouldnt ever consider that so it is not an option, unfortunately others do - hence the rules we are governed by. |

Heartless or just heard it all before? www.workandincome.govt.nz If it is just a storage problem you're wasting money paying for a flat and power when a small storage unit costs around $100/month. |
