774859 2009-05-18 08:47:00 Current processor is AMD 3200, will be upgrading it within the next few weeks. RAM is Kingston DDR2 PC2 5300 convair (13650)
774860 2009-05-18 08:52:00 How much RAM?

And what version of Flight Simulator.

If you upgrade to something such as the 4670 or even the 4850 you'll get a nice performance boost, but I suggest you get a Phenom || or Athlon 64x2 to match.

And 2gb of RAM min

774864 2009-05-18 11:21:00 That game is also a cpu intensive hog, therefore the fastest single core cpu would be the best upgrade along with perhaps plenty of fast memory, even a nice SSd for quick level loads....for that game. SolMiester (139)
774865 2009-05-18 20:40:00 I want to improve the performance of my PC so it will run Flight Simulator faster.

Flight sim is very cpu intensive.
Get the best cpu you can afford.
Then ram

774866 2009-05-18 20:45:00 You'd want a graphics card upgrade then, although if you have a very slow processor or very little ram it will bottleneck a fast GFX card

A top line graphics card is unnecessary for flight Sim.It may improve your picture but certainly not performance.
a faster cpu

Wrong mate. FS9 can easily be made to utalise 4 cores.

But FS9 is obsolete anyway. Get yourself a copy of FSX

774868 2009-05-18 21:29:00 Socket AM2 or 939? If 939, There probably isn't much option for CPU upgrades - maybe you can find a 4000+ on trademe or something. If it's AM2, then *probably* the board can handle the X2 series, (will need to check mainboard CPU support) and you could grab a more recent dual-, triple-, or quad-core. inphinity (7274)
