774488 2009-05-18 05:05:00 I could use a little info here on this problem .

I guess that the other PSU got bad reviews, so how about this one?

. coolmaxusa . com/productDetailsPower . asp?item=CTI-500B&details=overview&subcategory=80mm&category=dual" target="_blank">www . coolmaxusa . com

Since I have just one processor and also have a bunch of hdds, and a few power-sucking peripherals and the old unit was just 350 watts, is this a good upgrade or not?

My "form factor" is an Athlon XP, so I guess what I'm really asking is: "will this one work?"

774489 2009-05-18 07:04:00 Personally I'd go for a 450w corsair or antec.

It'll provide plenty of room for upgrades and it'll be nice and stable

774492 2009-05-18 20:10:00 I got a hold of Enermax and they referred me to Newegg . com .

They said that this . . . . . .

ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT-ECO 400W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready

CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS
Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
Includes two 6+2p (8p) PCIe 2 . 0 connectors

. . . . . . . is a good replacement since I don't need a -5VDC connection .

Here's the LINK ( . newegg . com/Product/Product . aspx?Item=N82E16817194042" target="_blank">www . newegg . com)

What do youse guys think?

774493 2009-05-18 22:15:00 That looks good. Sufficient and stable Blam (54)
774494 2009-05-19 01:15:00 The Enermax Liberty is a good PSU and will work fine for an Athlon XP system, if don't mind the price then get it .

However it does have connectors for PCI-E and things which you don't even have so it might be a bit of overkill - of course, if would probably future-proof you for upgrades though .

If you can find one of the FMA series (noisetaker etc) it'll probably be cheaper . I tried looking but newegg's website doesn't like me right now .

This is an interesting read too: . wikipedia . org/wiki/ATX#Interchanging_old . 2Fnew_systems_with_old . 2Fnew" target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org _PSUs

Not sure about Coolmax but JonnyGuru didn't give this one a very good review: . jonnyguru . com/modules . php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=72" target="_blank">www . jonnyguru . com

However this is the CP-500T not the CTI-500B you linked to, so I don't know if there are any differences .

A 700 Watt model did slightly better but a capacitor exploded . jonnyguru . com/modules . php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=68" target="_blank">www . jonnyguru . com

Their 950 Watt was even worse, with terrible ripple . jonnyguru . com/modules . php?name=NDReviews&op=Story1&reid=106" target="_blank">www . jonnyguru . com but when you know it's using the same parts as the 700 watt version this begins to make sense .

Apparently though their 1300 Watt PSU was actually pretty good . . .

774495 2009-05-19 05:01:00 I took my wife out for soft-serve ice cream and there's a Staples (http://www . staples . com/) store nearby, so I just wandered in to look n' see if they even had a PSU .

Lo! I found an Antec EA-500D for $79 . 00 USD/$132 . 43 NZD plus 8 . 75% sales tax .

I cashed in some of my "Staples Bux" a form of reward for buying things there all the time and I got out the door for less than $20 . 00 USD/$33 . 53 NZD .

It's kinda late right now here in SoCal so I'll install the whole thing tomorrow after I get back from my scheduled visit to a friend in Idyllwild .

It's a pretty thing fresh out of the box!
