610614 2007-11-11 23:07:00 It captures in DV, which is the standard for...well, digital video and is what you want to be capturing in.

Just made a short movie, It saves as AVI/DV no problem, Which means no quality lost from the original DV capture, Then you just need to run it through an encoder to get the required format, file size, quality. It was also very simple to use, and the results were excellent.

610615 2007-11-11 23:24:00 I'd go with Bantu on the Adobe Premier stakes as that is what I used to have (although I never ended up using it) before I got my iMac. winmacguy (3367)

Your going to recommend an expensive high-end and damn hard to learn app based on the fact you once had it but never used it? Damn, Thats just some **** advice.

(and I have dared to question your logic in the past?)

I hope your going to donate it too him.

610618 2007-11-12 00:07:00 I wouldn't even bother getting the "free" version unless the cheaper apps don't have the features you require, I tried it a few years back, I had no idea what the hell was going on, I needed tution or a book just to get a simple project done.

Overkill in every regard.

(and I bet not suggesting you buy a Mac (superior at Media projects dont you know) was damn hard for him to do)

610619 2007-11-12 00:24:00 Who said MM has some good features? It does very little - very basic. You need, minimum, two extra sound tracks - that is three including the original. If you want to add sound effects, music, voice over, one extra sound track is not sufficient. There are many editing programmes, one of the easiest (and does a reasonable job) is Pinnacle's Studio 8. You can upload your footage to the PC, download it back to the camera when rendered and there are many good features, too many to list here, that will make your work look very professional, but of course, any programme will not fix crappy shooting and a crappy soundtrack. Use a tripod and decent microphone (not the one that comes with the camera!) and you will improve your shooting. You can have excellent footage but if you do not have continuity of sound then your efforts could be wasted. I have been shooting and editing video for some years for myself and others and have had no complaints. If you want to ask questions, please do so. Roscoe (6288)

Does your recommended program do the specific tasks he is after, mainly practicable blurring of a moving object, in this case a number plate?

Either that or Premier Elements.

I didn't use Adobe Premier Elements because I needed a Firewire card on my old PC to capture the video and never got round to buying one or adding the necessary 200GB hard drive(my old 40GB was chocka!). I eventually got an iMac which comes with iMovie.

You were asking for advice on good video editing software, so I suggested Premier. If you had asked for cheaper beginner stuff I would have suggested Premier Elements.

tripod? on my motorbike?! lol

i've got the mounting all sussed and it's reasonably steady, it's just the camera has an internal mic for waterproofing reasons, whereas ideally i'd have a free mic down by the engine, out of the wind. if i do bother (currently broke) i'd have to clap or something to get the audio and visual in sync though

thanks for the tips though, i was concerned about the sound on movie maker
